Newsletter - May 2022
Greetings Neuro Challenge Community,

The month of April has flown by, and it sure was a busy one. Not only did we Paint the Town Orange, we held our annual gala, Cause 4 Hope, and participated in the Giving Challenge. Paint the Town Orange was a month-long event where we spread the word about the free programs and services offered by Neuro Challenge Foundation and Parkinson’s disease in Sarasota, Manatee, Pinellas, Highlands, Charlotte and Marion counties. If you follow us on Facebook you can see all the places we went to spread the word. Thank you for helping us make Parkinson’s Awareness a priority not just in April, but year-round.

Cause 4 Hope was back after having to cancel for two years. The room was full of excitement and dapper attire. Thanks to the support of the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s and generous donors & sponsors we were able to raise money to support the programs and services which are offered by Neuro Challenge at no cost. On the heals of Cause 4 Hope was the Giving Challenge, a community-wide fundraising event where Neuro Challenge competed against numerous other non-profits to raise funds. Neuro Challenge did quite well in the competition and are grateful that so many contributed to the Parkinson’s community.

May is going to be another exciting month at Neuro Challenge. Starting with a ribbon cutting for our new Charlotte County office on May 10th at 5:30 p.m. at 17831 Murdock Cir, Unit B, Port Charlotte, FL. The public is welcome, and we encourage you to come celebrate our growth. Following the ribbon cutting is the Distinguished Speakers Series of Charlotte County on Saturday, May 14th from 9:00-12:00 at Murdock Baptist Church, 18375 Cochran Blvd, Port Charlotte.

Our final May event is the annual Parkinson's Symposium, in partnership with Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. This event is being held on Saturday, May 21st from 9:00-12:00 at Sarasota Memorial Health Care Center at 5880 Rand Blvd in Sarasota. Both the Symposium and Distinguished Speakers Series are presented at no charge, however registration is required! Register today at the links provided below.

The Board and staff team at Neuro Challenge remain committed to serving the Parkinson’s community virtually and in-person and we hope to see you at our many programs this month!

Yours in the journey,

Did you see the Poling demo at the Parkinson's Expo? Look out for this new PROGRAM starting in May!

What: Fitness Walking Group
Where: Urfer Family Park, 4012 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34233
When: Thursday, May 19th,  9:30am-10:30am

Join us for a Fitness Walk…using urban poles.

Urban poling (also known as Nordic walking)—think cross-country skiing without the skis—has toning, calorie-burning and posture benefits that have made it popular in Europe for decades and a new workout favorite in Canada. And Neuro Challenge Foundation is bringing it to Sarasota, FL.

Come learn how adding specialized walking poles can improve balance, posture and walking ability.  Walking poles increase confidence and the enjoyment of walking while being an effective fall prevention strategy.

Ellen Schaller, one of the NCF Care Advisors, will have poles for the group to try and educate everyone on the Urban Poling technique for fitness walking. Other NCF staff will be on hand to assist and enjoy the walk too. We will start with a few warmup exercises and then have plenty of time to do some fitness walking using the urban poles.

So come enjoy the outdoors and try out the walking poles.

For more information contact Ellen Schaller at ellen@neurochallenge.org.
