Newsletter - April 2022
Greetings Neuro Challenge Community,

Thank you - everyone - for participating in the 2022 Parkinson’s Expo last month! It was thrilling to resume this event which welcomed 550 in-person attendees and over 1,230 people who attended virtually from throughout the United States and nine international countries!  Neuro Challenge is honored to deliver such important educational topics to you.  If you missed the 2022 Parkinson’s Expo, please stay tuned to ParkinsonsExpo.org in coming weeks for the recorded presentations.

April is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month. Neuro Challenge celebrates this national observance with an outreach campaign called “Paint The Town Orange”, which brings awareness to Parkinson’s disease by sharing the Neuro Challenge mission and services.  Help us Paint the Town Orange, by sharing Neuro Challenge with your health care providers and join the social media campaign and help spread the word to everyone you know!

Every year, approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.   Neuro Challenge is driven to deliver educational, supportive, and therapeutic programs and resources to the people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. And always at no cost.

The month of April also marks the return of two very important fundraising events:  the Cause 4 Hope Gala on April 23rd and the Giving Challenge on April 26th -27th from Noon- Noon!

Although Cause 4 Hope Gala cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 Gala promises next-level excitement!  Don’t miss two-time world series champ and Parkinson's fighter, Kirk Gibson as the keynote speaker at this inspiring evening of celebration. Purchase your Gala tickets here!

The Giving Challenge is back! Starting TODAY, you can double – or even triple – your donation!  Visit NeuroChallenge.org to make your secure pre-event pledge today.  During the Giving Challenge, your donation of $25 or more will be matched 1:1 by The Patterson Foundation, up to $100. And the first $10,000 in donations will be matched again by a generous donor.  100% of your contribution helps provide all programs, services and care advising at no charge to the Parkinson’s community.  Thank you!

Please join your friends at Neuro Challenge for Parkinson's Awareness Month by attending Cause 4 Hope, one of the many educational, therapeutic or support programs (in-person and online) or by making your gift during the Giving Challenge to support those who live each day with Parkinson’s disease.

With gratitude,

April Spagnuolo-Moschini
Program Director

SAVE THE DATE!
Did you see the Poling demo at the Parkinson's Expo? Look out for this new PROGRAM starting in May!

Join us for a Fitness Walk…using urban poles.

Urban poling (also known as Nordic walking)—think cross-country skiing without the skis—has toning, calorie-burning and posture benefits that have made it popular in Europe for decades and a new workout favorite in Canada. And Neuro Challenge Foundation is bringing it to Sarasota, FL.

Come learn how adding specialized walking poles can improve balance, posture and walking ability.  Walking poles increase confidence and the enjoyment of walking while being an effective fall prevention strategy.

Ellen Schaller, one of the NCF Care Advisors, will have poles for the group to try and educate everyone on the Urban Poling technique for fitness walking. Other NCF staff will be on hand to assist and enjoy the walk too. We will start with a few warmup exercises and then have plenty of time to do some fitness walking using the urban poles.

So come enjoy the outdoors and try out the walking poles.

What: Fitness Walking Group
Where: Urfer Family Park, 4012 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34233
When: May,  9:30-10:30am, Dates: TBA

For more information contact Ellen Schaller at ellen@neurochallenge.org.
