IntrepidArts: May in Memphis
Cultural vitamins for your brain and soul
Theatre Memphis at 100
On May 20 Theater Memphis turns 100 years old. Originally The Little Theater Players of Memphis, the first three plays of the 1920 season were presented at Germania Hall, downtown at Third & Jefferson.  Productions were given in various locations – Nineteenth Century Club and St Agnes Conservatory – before the first permanent home was established for Memphis Little Theater in the former stable of the James Lee House on Adams in 1925. In 1929 a larger venue, 250 seats,  was established at the Pink Palace. In 1973 groundbreaking was held at the present Perkins location and the first product there ran in May of 1975. Most recently, the facility has gone through a major renovation which we are all anxious to see and celebrate during the anniversary month.  Enjoy performances, arts & crafts, food trucks, and more on May 1 with celebration of anniversary, and then come back each Thursday,  May 6 through  July 15, for live music on the plaza.
