IntrepidArts: September in Memphis
Seeing inspiring art may be more important than ever
Art for Jobs
One of my favorite art events, this one benefits Advance Memphis. Each year the art for sale get better and better, thanks in no small part to wonderful volunteers like Meredith Olinger. This year the big, fun opening will be curtailed, but you can view the art by appointment and then bid online. More info here.
Opera Memphis Sing2me
UberEats isn't the only outfit which delivers these days! Opera Memphis will come to you! Your donation can bring the trailer complete with fabulous singers and a keyboard players to your home, to a company, to some place where you'd like to spread some love. It is a safe, social distanced, delightful helping of talent that you have sorely missed seeing in person. Here's the link you need. Also tune in to WKNO FM for Third Thursdays and hear more.
Summer of Seagle
I hope you saw this great article on Jeanne in the Flyer AND her terrific show at L Ross Gallery.

Why Art
During WWII the US government commissioned Frank Capra to produce a series of films entitled Why We Fight to remind the American people of the reasoning behind the war effort and sacrifice. The fantastic art installed through West Clinic similarly answers the question Why Art? Soothing, inspiring, joyful beauty in waiting rooms and work areas is exactly the higher purpose of art. And some of our best local artists have put forth their best efforts in this collection.

Christmas in September
It may only be early September, but preparations are well underway for the annual Church Health Christmas card program (hand addressing 13,000 cards takes a bit!). This year's joyful artwork comes from Dr. Gopal Murti. In next month's enews, I'll offer more information on how you can order cards; meanwhile, be working on your list of recipients.

Chief curator heather ahtone will talk about that facility and also speak more generally about indigenous peoples art via zoom on September 9. Presented by the Brooks, her talk will nicely complement the current Native Voices exhibit. Keep an eye on the Brooks web site for further details.
