Old Harbor Bar & Barrels Campaign

The wonderful folks down at Old Harbor Distilling Company are trying to bring new life and opportunity to the East Village San Diego neighborhood. In late November, Old Harbor Bar &Barrels was launched to fund their Sunset Bar, which will open at sundown to sling local spirits & cocktails. The campaign will also fund new barrels, bringing San Diegan's more delicious San Miguel gin and the expansion of their line into distilled honey wine and mexican heirloom bourbon. Mayan Hot Chocolate : Makes 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked butternut squash pulp
  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • 3 ounces Ibarra brand Mexican chocolate
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Directions:

1. In a blender, puree the squash with 1¾ cups of the milk until perfectly smooth.
2. In a large saucepan, mix the remaining 1¾ cups of milk, chocolate, and spices. With a whisk, stir over low heat until the chocolate is melted, then add the pureed squash. Do not boil. Strain through a coarse sieve to remove any trace of the squash fiber.
3. Reheat gently in a heavy saucepan. Serve in little demitasse cups, with a crisp cookie for dipping.

Free Wine Making Demonstration at Curds & Wine
December 5th, 1-5pm

Join us to see just how easy it is to make your own wine, at home or on site at Curds and Wine! We will go through all of the basic steps of making wine from kits, from start to bottle. This will be an interactive demonstration, you will have an opportunity to take part in winemaking steps hands-on. This demonstration will take about 2 hours, and then you can start your own wine!

Italian Holiday Cookie Tradtions

The paper is frayed and has a yellowish tint. The words are hard to read. There's a list of ingredients, but the measurements are sporadic and the instructions are random at best....
