Occupied by shipbuilders and craftsmen since records began, Standard Quay is the historic heart of maritime Faversham. In recent times the quay has experienced a revival as a national centre for the preservation of Thames Sailing Barges and traditional shipwrighting skills. Its beauty and authenticity continue to inspire painters, photographers and filmmakers, attracting visitors from all over the world. Today, despite a major campaign to safeguard its future as a working boat yard, the quayside remains earmarked for development as shops, hotels and restaurants.

This exhibition celebrates a unique way of life about to be lost. It features artworks inspired by Standard Quay, artefacts from its past and exclusive screenings from The Quay, a new documentary film about Faversham’s last traditional shipyard.
