OpenXR 1.0 Standard Release

OpenXR LogoWe are very excited to announce the ratification and release of the OpenXR 1.0 standard. Congratulations to the members of the OpenXR Working Group! This milestone evolves the standard giving software developers and hardware vendors a solid foundation upon which to deliver incredible, portable, user experiences.

After gathering feedback from the XR community during the public review of the provisional specification, improvements were made to the OpenXR input subsystem, game engine editor support, and loader. With this 1.0 release, the working group will evolve the standard while maintaining full backwards compatibility from this point onward, giving software developers and hardware vendors a solid foundation upon which to deliver incredible, portable, user experiences.

News from 3D Commerce Working Group, WebGL, glTF, and Vulkan

3D Commerce is now a Working Group (WG). The 3D Commerce WG was created to align the industry for streamlined, consistent 3D content creation and consumption. The 3D Commerce WG has brought together retailers, technology vendors, and manufacturers in order to work together to build industry consensus on what standardization activities are most urgently required for ubiquitous 3D Commerce. Khronos Releases New NNEF Convertors, Extensions, and Model Zoo

NNEF LogoWe are excited to announce a significant expansion in the ecosystem for NNEF™ (Neural Network Exchange Format). Included in this release are new and improved NNEF open source convertors, including for TensorFlow Lite and ONNX. The new convertors enables NNEF to be used to carry trained frameworks from a wider range of training frameworks. In addition, a set of extensions to the NNEF 1.0 specification enable NNEF files to contain a richer network of operations and topologies. Finally, an openly available NNEF Model Zoo enables inferencing engines to test their reliable import of NNEF models.

New OpenCL Reference Pages Online

OpenCL LogoThe OpenCL Working Group has posted new OpenCL Reference pages. These pages are now generated from open source AsciiDoctor – please let us know if you have fixes or suggestions on GitHub.

Additionally, the OpenCL v2.2-11 specification was released and posted. This release is a significant maintenance release with bug fixes, clarifications, improved formatting and linking within the specification, and integration with the OpenCL reference pages.

Khronos BOF at SIGGRAPH 2019

Khronos BOF LogoThe yearly, Khronos BOF Day, was a tremendous success at SIGGRAPH 2019. The all-day Birds of a Feather sessions included an organizational-wide update by Neil Trevett followed by presentations from glTF, WebGL, OpenXR, Vulkan, and OpenGL. The audience was terrific with strong attendance for all sessions. We wish to thank all of our hardworking presenters and the audience for making this a successful event.

3D Commerce BOF

At SIGGRAPH, we held our inaugural 3D Commerce Birds of a Feather. This standing room only session was kicked off with an update from Shrenik Sadalgi of Wayfair, the Chair of the new 3D Commerce Working Group, followed by a rapid fire series of presentations from key technology and retail companies in the group. Afterward, there was a lively discussion on issues to be solved in ramping up 3D Commerce to industrial scale – and the shared commitment to cooperate at Khronos to solve those issues together as an industry.
