Twenty Twelve Transition
Kia Ora <<First Name>>,
He iti, he iti kahikatoa
Though little, it is still a manuka tree

- Maori proverb

Ancient prophecy calls this new age 'the age of cherishing floral waters'. It is a time of great change, healing and awakening. The cherishing waters are our wairua - the waters of spirit, and like the Manuka tree we each play an important role in this unfolding new reality. Manuka seeds are tiny and can disperse far and wide, settling in often rugged, barren conditions. Placed in difficult conditions they are able to grow and provide a nurturing habitat for a remarkable variety of native plants and creatures of our land. The seeds of the future are being sown.

The 'Twenty Twelve' Date - check out the Medicine Woman video blog
There is a lot of talk about the upcoming ‘December 2012’ date. We see it appearing in mainstream media and many of the ancient myths speak of it. The Maori legend of Tane suggests that the keys to successfully navigating this much talked about transition lie hidden within nature. According to legend, the three baskets of knowledge that Tane brought down and placed deep within the forests would be the 'keys to our survival as a human race'. Each of the three baskets held special teachings that would come at a time when the earth needed them most, to teach the people to live in harmony with nature again. Myth - the writings of mystery - often give us insight and food for thought.

Medicine Woman Residential Retreat
The 6th annual Medicine Woman Residential Retreat marked the end of a significant cycle for First Light. We were very blessed to have Dr Rangimarie Turuki Arikirangi Rose Pere open the three-day Shamanic workshop with sacred ceremony. Her presence had a remarkable impact on the participants and her role was pivotal in weaving together the strands that define the future of the planet. Rose answered a number of questions that people had asked, shared wonderful stories, and her humour was contagious. Each person was able to link in with her individually for what was a memorable event.
“MIND BLOWING!  It was an amazing experience and life has not been the same since I got back. The six days I spent at Medicine Woman this year have altered my perception of daily reality and have added a depth to life that I was craving."
- S.Y.

For the first time workshop attendees were given the opportunity to attend an authentic sweat lodge conducted in the traditional way. Three separate sweat lodges were held over three nights at Tauhara. The purifying fire and prayers formed an unforgettable experience for many people and gave the feeling of being rebirthed into a new world.

New Medicine Woman Website
The birth of our new sister website signifies a new cycle and significant change for First Light as we move into the new energies of 2013. Much of the Medicine Woman information you see on the First Light website will move to the new Medicine Woman website, allowing First Light to continue with its therapeutic focus on the First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand®.

It is a joy to see the native plants of this remarkable land working in so many places across the planet at this time. Thank you all for your continued work and efforts - may they be carried on the winds of change, like powerful Manuka seeds.

With much aroha,

Franchelle Ofsoské-Wyber and Tony Wyber.

Interview With Kiri Schumacher - Creator of the First Light Jewellery
"We make sense of the world around us through collective myth. Feminine, filigree designs draw an association with a fairytale aesthetic."
The maker of the First Light Flower Jewellery talks about her botanically inspired creations and her love of nature.

Kiri Schumacher is the creator of the exquisite range of gold and silver First Light Jewellery made available this year through the First Light Flower Essences of New Zealand® website. Deeply immersed in the world of art, Kiri has a degree in Art History from Auckland University and Fine Arts degree from Elam, specialising in sculpture and photography. Kiri enjoys the flexibility of working at home with a dedicated work space and specialised tools to create the fine art jewellery you see on the website today. She has natural healing gifts and uses First Light flower essences when working with clients in a healing capacity and on herself when tuning into the spirit of nature for her work.

Where do you get the inspiration for your creations?

“I have always been attracted to nature and have felt a close affinity to the plant kingdom from a young age. It is where my inspiration comes from. I love getting close to the beauty of flowers and have been taking detailed macro shots of plants for many years. The beauty of the human form has also been the subject of my close up photography and throughout the years these two forms of beauty have allowed my art to evolve into the contemporary form it is today. They have been brought together to form the jewellery that I create.”

Both Kiri’s artistic and healing practices draw upon a close relationship with the botanical world. Her jewellery symbolically represents the beauty of this world and the merging of nature with humanity... Read More

A star is born! Known at the moment as 'Little Tree' this beautiful little scorpio baby boy was born on 1st November 2012 to our Kidzone writer Anna Gentry.  Anna tells us she went into Labour after reading the launch of the new Medicine Woman website on 31/10/12 and that the birth was so graceful with No.65 Tree Fuchsia supporting her as the 'midwife'.
