CYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

Victoria Avenue (Cannon Street to Hunter Street)
A new two-way cycle track has been implemented on Victoria Avenue (Cannon Street to Hunter Street). This is an extension of the existing two-way cycle track on Victoria Avenue (Cannon Street to Birge Street), which was implemented in 2021. This 2022 north-south link allows cyclists to connect to the existing east-west cycle track on Cannon Street, as well as a future planned connection to the Keddy Access Trail in 2023.

Shamrock Park Bicycle Path
A new bicycle path has been constructed through Shamrock Park. This will provide a cycling connection along Ferguson Avenue. This bicycle path will reduce cyclists illegally riding on the adjacent sidewalk, providing a continuous cycling connection between the two segments of Ferguson Avenue. The path will be a formal portion of the Trans Canada Trail and the Waterfront Trail.

School Bike Rack Grant

Did you know the Sustainable Mobility group at the City has a School Bike Rack Grant? Schools all over Hamilton, like Pauline Johnson Elementary School, have received funding to install new bike racks for their students to use. Our team works with schools that apply to select an ideal location and provides recommendations for rack manufacturers. Does your child’s school have a need for a bike rack? Reach out to us for more information about how to apply.
