Earth Hour 2016

March 19, 8:30 to 9:30 PM
Please join us at the 7th annual Earth Hour Candlelight Walk in Roncesvalles Village from the top of Roncy down to the foot between the Roncesvalles Footbridge and the Katyn Monument. This global tradition is a symbolic community gesture to recognize climate change and the need for environmental stewardship. The walk starts at the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden near Starbucks (at 2201 Dundas Street West). Bring your own lantern or a tea candle in a jar.

This year is a 10-year milestone for the World Wildlife Fund. So, after powering-down at home, please join us with your family, friends and neighbours. As more and more people recognize ways to combat climate change, the easier it will be to educate, guide and combine our efforts effectively, when nationwide guidelines are put in place. Please join us. It takes about 30 minutes to walk the 1.8 kilometer stretch.

Afterwards, meet up with your friends at one of the many candlelit restaurants and bistros along Roncesvalles participating in the spirit of earth hour.

Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden

PLANT Architects who designed the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden will be planting in the spring.  The official launch of the DRPG is scheduled for June 11. We will be joined by our Aboriginal project partners, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, whose ancestral lands extended throughout Roncesvalles Village. We're getting close to completion on this project which has involved many community partners over the past five years. The new DRPG website in the works will reveal itself soon. Stay tuned for details of the launch event.

Sprucing up the street

March 19, 11AM to noon

RoncyWorks volunteers are planning a clean sweep of all the garden beds along Roncesvalles Saturday morning, March 19, to remove litter and get the gardens ready for spring.  We’ll be starting at 11 a.m. from the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden and we'll work our way down, while doing some extra sweeping along the way to take care of those orphan corners. To help make this task lighter and swifter for all, please consider joining us.
Volunteers should bring garden gloves, clear plastic bags or small plastic shopping bags. Paper bags are good too if the conditions are dry. We will break out in teams as we make our way down the street. Last year with many hands to help, it only took an hour.

To help out or for more information, contact RoncyWorks when we all pitch in.
