Quarryland Quickie - News for QMC Members
Season 15, Celebrate!, our Ruby Anniversary
Issue #17 - QMC Quickie for 03/15
A positive performance-based community for gay/bisexual men/transmen and their allies in South Central Indiana. We foster talent, fellowship, pride, and understanding through excellence in vocal music. Founded in 2002.
Join the QMC team for South Central Indiana AIDS Walk on April 7, 2017. Click here to sign up and pay the $25 registration fee to join our team; that amount goes toward our team fundraising goal. It also gives you the chance to do something great for our community and for those living with HIV in this part of the state. Soliciting donations from your friends is not required, neither is walking on the day of the event. But both go a long way toward a worthy goal. Your friends and family and coworkers are all looking for a way to help where it's needed and to do something locally uplifting. Please take part!
If you are unable to attend rehearsal, contact the Chorus Manager, Luiz Lopes, via Facebook Messenger, email (email@example.com) or text (812-360-8508)! Please remember that if you contact someone else and they forget to let Luiz know, your absence will be marked as unexcused.
Performance and Fellowship Opportunities
Doug McKinney and Peter Burkholder (QMC alums) organize the monthly Bloomington Gay Men's Fellowship. If you'd like to be placed on their mailing list contact Doug McKinney (firstname.lastname@example.org)
There is a speakeasy-style party for gay men, their friends, allies, and other aesthetes (no cover, no requests) organized by Aaron Tilford at the Root Cellar (basement of FARM on Kirkwood Ave by BLU Boy and Buskirk-Chumley Theater) called Monsieur. Every week on Sunday, 8pm-Midnight.
Past rehearsal notes, upcoming rehearsal prep, performance information (attire, call-time, performance order), rehearsal reminders. Link to musetta.
Auditions for #twitterlieder will be held on Monday, March 20. Please send a note to Barry Magee (email@example.com) by March 16 indicating which solos you're interested in. The following selections have solos:
Birthday! (Tenor Solo)
OMG! (Tenor Solo)
The Big Night! (Baritone Solo)
Selfie (Two Tenor Soli)
Merry-Go-Round (Tenor and Baritone Soli)
Brothers of the Heart (Tenor and Baritone Soli)
Auto-Correct (Frustrated Baritone Solo). It's likely that the indicated "Smart-Phone" Tenor Solo will be done by the tenor section.
Mom (Baritone Solo)
Please note that you are welcome to audition for solos outside your designated vocal section.
Memorization schedule: The following pieces should have been memorized by last Monday's rehearsal (March 13):
Dancing through Life
The Sound of Silence
Notes by Nic Newby:
HEY SINGERS! THIS IS IMPORTANT! I have the practice versions of Dancing Through Life, Over the Rainbow, and The Sound of Silence available for download. They can be found in the shared Google drive linked here. If you have any problems accessing the files, please contact me and I will make sure you get them.
Note: You should be able to pan your stereo all the way to the right and hear only your part and all the way to the left to hear only everyone else's parts and all the way to the center to hear all parts.
Also: some people find it easier to learn their part with a piano playing the vocal part rather than a voice sound (usually for rhythmic reasons). Let me know if you are one of those people and I will find a way to make it work for you.
SINGERS: I have updated the Google drive, you now should have access to the first act of #twitterlieder. Again, if there is any way you would like for me to tweak the sounds that would make it easier for you to learn your part, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Notes by Mitch Serslev:
Did you know there are regular rehearsals until our concert? You can't afford to miss one more.
QMC will continue to rehearse after our spring concert and through the month of May, as our 15th season doesn't end until we've performed for the Spencer Pride Festival on June 3, 2017!
