The Principal's Message

Book Fair
This week the book fair is displayed in the Harbeck Library. Children have the opportunity to preview all the books and create a wish list of all the books they like. Parents have the opportunity to view and purchase the books before and after school and at the Book Cafe on Tuesday night. For more information click HERE.
Hazel Hawke (Masterson)
We would like to acknowledge the sad passing of Hazel Hawke who was an ex-student at Mount Hawthorn. Hazel Masterson lived in Coogee Street and made a significant contribution to cancer research and indigenous rights. There is a page (38) dedicated to Hazel in our 100 Years Magical Memories book which includes her 1938 school report.

Trading Cards
We all loved collecting trading cards as children and remember collecting and trading in the good old days. Now that I am a Principal it is time for my annual clarification of the rules that are in place to stop unscrupulous trading and cards going missing.
Cards are only to come to school on Fridays and are to be left on desks and shared with pride. That way we will ensure that you keep your favourites.
New Gate
We now have a lovely new gate on Woodstock Street. It won’t be locked, so parents may enter the school grounds via the oval. Watch out for errant footballs!
Kiss & Drive
After consultation with Dr Alison Harman, I have decided to extend the existing Kiss & Drive on Killarney Street  to include the bus zones, as the buses depart at 2.45pm.

  • Two camps will be organised for both Year 7 and Year 6 students. Dates will be finalised and communicated to parents next semester
  • Leadership opportunities will be given to both Year 6 and Year 7 students in 2014
  • Two graduations will be held in 2014
  • An information session for parents of Year 6 and 7 students will be held in Term 4

ARTIST OF
THE FORTNIGHT
Congratulations Josh from Room 26

Josh created this snake in art class with the topic "Year of the Snake". Students decorated fabric with a lino print using lineal continuous patterns. They also created an abstract composition using string, the lino block and paint.
Uniform Service
We are continuing to evaluate the options for new uniform items for girls. Parents and students have an opportunity to view and comment on some samples of skort, skirt and pant options during the Book Fair this week in the Harbeck Centre.
Please note we are still in the research phase and any new uniform items will be announced later in the year after the Board has completed the Dress Code review. We will advise when the new items are available to order. Many thanks, Shari McKeown.
