Community Noticeboard
Many of you may have noticed that we have a brown owl that has taken up residence in a tree in the senior school. We have made contact with a wildlife organization who informed us that the antics he is demonstrating are perfectly normal owl behaviours. We have been asked to keep an eye on him but leave him be. We do appreciate the concern shown by our families regarding our feathery friend, and reassure students that we are keeping a close eye on him and he will find a new home when he is ready!
The City of Vincent is holding a forum for parents to discuss nature play spaces within the City and to hear parents’ ideas of what they and their children would like to see in their local area. It is being held on Saturday 13 April from 2pm to 5pm  at the City Administration and Civic Centre.
The battery recycling program will be visiting the school in Week 9 or Week 10 for a collection. If you have any used batteries to be recycled, please leave them in the box in the Harbeck Centre.
Kade from Year 4 lost his Axford shirt at the Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 20 March. It's a size 10, nearly brand new and has his name on it. Can all Axford parents please check your child/children’s shirts to make sure this has not gone home to you. If found, please return to Room 39 or to Administration.

The Principal's Message
A week of cultural celebrations with buddy classes concluded in a burst of colour on a perfect autumn morning for our Harmony Day parade on Friday, 22 March. All students from Pre–primary  to Year 7 gathered on the tiger turf, surrounded by parents, to showcase the many costumes from around the globe and the harmony colour of orange. The values of friendship, harmony, togetherness and unity were reflected as the older students escorted their younger buddies around the arena. A wide range of traditional dress was evident and highlighted the diverse cultures in our families and school community. Mr Thompson was an excellent Master of Ceremonies as he shared stories from the crowd and extended an invitation to visit his parents in his native Canada! Well done Mr T. Congratulations to the parents who supported their children with a costume and assisted with the dress up. A fun and colourful event for all and the gold coin donations totalled $695 for our Sister School in Bali. The money raised will enable approximately 14 children to be educated for a year. A great result, Thank you.

Congratulations to the students for getting on their bikes and scooters last Friday. What an overwhelming success! The bike racks were transformed into car parks! 192 children rode to school on their bike or scooter. Keep on riding!

A reminder to parents that our school’s annual ANZAC Ceremony will be held on Friday, 19 April on the junior tiger turf commencing at 9.00am. All students are to wear full school uniform including the correct school hat. If your child belongs to a uniformed youth group they may wear their uniforms (guides, scouts, boys/girls brigade etc). Members of the Mount Hawthorn Returned Services League will also be in attendance.
Australia’s first commemorative $2 coin in colour has been unveiled by the RSL and the Royal Australian Mint. A unique Australian legal tender, this ground breaking $2 coin is simply an outstanding keepsake for every  Australian. For more information click HERE

The Dogs’ Refuge Home in Shenton Park were down to their last can of wet food so they sent out a notice asking for donations.
Laura and Holly (Year 4 and Year 2) are huge dog lovers and wanted to do something to help. They used their pocket money they had been saving to buy 12 cans between them and their parents took them to the Refuge to deliver their donation.
The President of the Refuge was delighted to receive their donation.
Well done!
Congratulations to the following students selected from each year level:
Justine, Charlotte, Ella, Ryan, Connor and Courtney.
These students have won either a tennis racquet or free tennis lesson from Peter Gerrans, club coach at the Leederville Tennis Club. Well Done! Anita Putt
