ARNIE'S BIG WEEKEND
For those hoo noticed, we returned to school on Monday after the weekend to find a sofa had mysteriously appeared on the roof of the senior school. It cannot be confirmed how it got to be up on the roof, but it seems perhaps our resident owl Arnie was trying to make himself more at home by branching out.
We hope he sticks to his tree in future.
JOKE:
Q: How do you know that owls are smarter than chickens?
A: Have you ever heard of Kentucky Fried Owl?

Thank you to all those parents who completed the survey about Reporting to Parents and uniforms. Responses will be published on the school website after they are presented to the School Board and feedback will be used when the Board reviews the Reporting to Parents Policy.

DISCO
From all reports the disco was a resounding success! We have received excellent feedback about the great job members of the Year 7 Disco Committee did last Friday night. Lauren, Chantelle, Lily, Roark, Liam and Riley were a terrific team and showed a great sense of responsibility and professionalism during the evening. I congratulate them on their commitment and hard work leading up to, and on the night. Thank you also to Cherrie Fletcher, Daniel Lawrence and Helen Davey for their efforts.

At the start of this term Mount Hawthorn Primary School purchased thirty nine Samsung Galaxy Tablets for the school and ten for the Kindy. The tablets are being trialled and set up by Room 22 and will then be available for the rest of the school to use. So far we have downloaded Mathletics, Encyclopaedia Britannica and many other educational and fun apps. By Damon Room 22

And they're off!
CROSS COUNTRY
On Tuesday, June 17 all students in Year 4-7 participated in the school Cross Country Carnival held at Menzies Park. We were fortunate the weather was very kind to us and the rain stayed away. All students completed the course really well which shows that the `Running A Marathon` program has had some very positive results. All factions finished very closely with Shakespeare winning the carnival. They were followed closely by Menzies, Axford and Braithwaite. The champions are as follows: Year 4 - Emma and Jack, Year 5 - Bridget and Will, Year 6 - Alyssa and Yared, Year 7 - Lily and Jacob. Congratulations! Sue Kenny and Anita Putt
GOOD NEWS STORY
On the weekend I helped some homeless people. I got the idea from a documentary I watched with my mum and we did it on Saturday. We had a suitcase filled with things like toothpaste and toiletries, canned fruit and other tinned foods. Me and my mum gave the food to the person who worked at the Hostel for her to give to the homeless people. I was glad. By Keira Room 10
Tales of
Times Past
On Monday, 17 June all the Year 3 classes went on a Historical Walk around Mount Hawthorn. We learnt so much about the history of our wonderful suburb including Cartwright’s Dairy on the corner of Coogee St and Anzac Rd. Lizzie’s (Rm 12) great, great grandfather used to deliver milk from his dairy farm (Ambleside) in Osborne Park to the dairy in Mount Hawthorn. Also Callum’s Mum let us look through Anzac Cottage which was built in one day! It was a great learning experience!
On Monday, 24 June, all the Year 3 classes had 5 ladies visiting them to talk about ‘Tales from Times Past’. The speakers Lina, Berna, Olivea, Edite and Anna told us about life in the ‘olden days’ around Mount Hawthorn, Perth city and in the country. They showed us photos and brought us things from their past to show. It was very interesting and we learnt so much from them.
The ladies are volunteers for TOTPSS. For more information about their program click HERE or contact vtsun@globaldial.com
YEAR 7 CAMP
From 12 to 14 June all the 2013 Year 7 students went on camp!  We took a bus ride to Ern Halliday campsite. We were split into three different groups and all participated in caving, big swing, flying fox and team games on the first day. On the second day we woke up bright and early and participated in archery, lost pilot (running game) and surf lifesaving. That night we had a camp concert. There were some amazing and entertaining performances and Mr Mackesey, Mrs Mears and Mrs Sturgeon attended the concert. We toasted marshmallows at a campfire and played spotlight on the oval. The next morning we walked to the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre to learn about fishing and then walked to the Great Escape. It was a great experience and we will remember it for the rest of our lives! By Lauren Room 22
What is
Anaphylaxis?
At Mount Hawthorn Primary School we have over 20 students with a severe, sudden and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction (Anaphylaxis) to nuts and nut products. Anaphylaxis reactions usually begin within minutes of exposure to nut and nut products and can progress rapidly.  Anaphylaxis is considered a medical emergency.
We request that parents avoid nut and nut products in student lunch boxes (eg nuts, peanut paste, Nutella).  Thank you for helping us reduce the risk for our students. Louise Swain
