For three days, Beyond the Black Box breaks out of boxes and colours outside the lines of the classic genres. During this transdisciplinary festival, you will discover artists who go off-grid, presenting work that goes beyond easily categorisable disciplines. For this Antwerp edition, we bring together artistic practices that manoeuvre on the cutting edge of disciplines, exploring their boundaries and forging new connections. They break open existing conventions and look for hybrid forms.  
  
Beyond the Black Box invites creators and the public to experiment with form, space and time. The festival challenges you to look at things differently. Let yourself be surprised by work in unexpected places or moments, throw that set of beliefs overboard and come and experience with an open mind what art can still be.

On Saturday 14/05 we present the following artists: Dan Musset - The Dating Project / Laurent Delom - Silicon Mountain, Par Hasard - Zet U / Benjamin Vandewalle - Journal d'un usager de l’espace… and we end with a nice party @ Monty!

For families we have a program on Sunday 15/05 with CREW / KAK - De Ongehoorden / Dan Musset - The Dating Project / Ugo Dehaes - Simple Machines / Clément Layes - Allege

De Brakke Grond exists for 41 years and is proudly throwing a birthday party! In this festive weekend, called 'Fier als een gieter', they look back but above all, they want to look forward. Moreover, they pass around several birthday treats: in this case, a weekend full of music, theatre, visual art - and everything in between. Old acquaintances and loyal partners are invited. But also new makers are present, who give a foretaste of the course de Brakke Grond will be taking in the coming years! We are proud that along the many great works, they also present Pure by Christian Bakalov!

"PURE " created by the Bulgarian-French artist Christian Bakalov, allows the visitors to experience the freedom of senses from the tyranny of the eye, however it does not deprive the mind from light. On the contrary, spectators ‘enter’ the light with their all senses. For Deleuze, just freeing the senses from the eye-control is not sufficient to liberate us: as long as each organ performs a predefined function, the organism does not reach the full capacity of the body, or ‘what the body can do’. It remains to be seen whether the freedom of senses, created by Bakalov’s installation, will ‘pure’ the future from [dominant] ideologies. Read more...
