RTO7's Coronavirus Update & Resources

March 11, 2020
This communication is being sent in continuation of our updates on COVID-19 (Coronavirus).  The sharing of information continues throughout the tourism community.  Please find following a series of links to new and past publications that are pertinent to the tourism and tourism related industries.
The latest reported case, #37, is in Sudbury.   Large conferences are beginning to cancel throughout the province, not just in Toronto and Ottawa.
The Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries has initiated weekly meetings with RTOs, Destination Ontario and other tourism associations that represent all areas of the industry both urban and rural.
A COVID-19 survey is being developed for distribution to tourism stakeholders to better understand the effects of the pandemic on business.  The data gathered from these surveys  will assist in recovery planning if and when needed.  The first survey will be launched this afternoon or early Thursday morning.  The request is to have the first set of data points submitted to the province by the morning of Friday, March 13, 2020.  Your cooperation is necessary to help communicate the impact to your business and the tourism industry in BruceGreySimcoe.  All information will be kept confidential and regional aggregated numbers only will be shared unless otherwise indicated by someone in your operation authorized to do so.
As supply chain issues continue to expand, we encourage stakeholders to take this into account when planning menus, staff clothing, retail items, etc.  We encourage you to start discussions with local food and beverage producers, retail suppliers, etc. now, if you have not so already done so, to secure a safe and steady supply for the upcoming summer season.
RTO7 is continuing with the March Break and Golf advertising campaigns in an effort to sustain and relay the message that the region is open for business.
We will keep you informed of further major happenings as they become known.  Staying informed, applying and monitoring continuous sanitary practices in both the workplace and at home are important steps to weathering this difficult period of time.
RTO7, with support from the Provincial Government and their agencies and our many partners across the region, are committed to providing you, the stakeholders, with as much support as we can.
