The City of Hillsboro, Oregon's water utility commission unanimously approved a contract with InPipe Energy on Tuesday to purchase and install InPipe’s In-PRV, pressure recovery valve. This milestone is the final step in InPipe’s pre-commercialization plan. With this unit in place, the company will demonstrate the economic benefit and operational impact of the In-PRV and show how the In-PRV efficiently produces renewable energy, accurately manages pressures, and supports their customers’ needs to address climate goals.
InPipe also recently received a grant from the California Energy Commission to team with a California-based water utility to do a field demonstration. The In-PRV is a new control valve that accurately controls pressure but instead of wasting energy as is done today, it converts wasted pressure to renewable energy (dollars). These funds provide a water agency to get a free renewable energy project if they are in PG&E, SoCal Edison or San Diego Gas & Electric's service area.
