Banana prawn season arrives

Banana prawn season starts on Easter Sunday and trawlers are rigging up in Cairns in preparation for what crews hope will be a bumper season for banana prawns.

Ian Boot from Austfish is hopeful for an average or better season.

"Some of our skippers are very positive about the season and then we have others who aren't as sure as it has been a different year for rainfall... What I am sure of is we will be catching in completely different areas to last year."

We are wishing all the fishermen good luck!
