NATIONAL MARINE NRM NEWS
Hello from the CEO

Dear OceanWatch community,

It’s an incredible responsibility to be the steward of an organisation like OceanWatch.  We have an amazing history of achievement, and a pretty unique vision…for a healthy, productive, valued and responsibly used Australian marine environment.

I am passionate about the condition of our marine environment, and passionate in my belief that positive change can happen when like-minded individuals, communities, groups and industry pledge to act, to do the right thing – and lead the way.

I have been with OceanWatch since 2006, where I rose through the ranks and was appointed CEO in October 2018.  My favourite part of the work is the diversity of the people and the organisations we work with.  This diversity gives rise to some interesting challenges, and also the opportunity for some amazing solutions, such as our Habitat in a Bag – our natural erosion control solution.  Who knew that growing new marine habitat whilst mitigating erosion could be so simple and inexpensive!! Pozible campaign here.
For early 2018, our focus will be on building our organisational strength as the national marine natural resource management organisation and putting our NRM Plan into action for 2018-2023. Contact us at newprojects@oceanwatch.org.au with your project ideas, and let’s see what can be done.

Through project such as Master Fisherman, our work with the seafood industry will focus on assisting professional fishers and farmers implement innovative practice which reduces their impact on the marine environment in partnership with regional NRMs, Governments, and communities.

We’ll also be taking the #OceanPledge to new heights, and will be seeking your support for the pledge. Our goal is to bring together community members, businesses, government and fishers to pledge to improve the way we all act in and around the marine environment. Add your name to the #OceanPledge, choose some actions you can take and we’ll keep you up to date with all the ways you can help. Check it out here.

So whether you’re a fisher, farmer, sailor, surfer, scientist or student, our challenge is to convert peoples’ love for the marine environment into stewardship actions, and together ensure a healthy and productive marine environment both now and into the future.

I hope you will join us on this journey, and make your actions count.

Lowri Pryce
