Writing the editor's letter is not easy at this time. With so much of Australia burning - as I write, news that the fires are approaching the southern highlands area where we danced at BASH in late November is coming through. 
In times past I have used tango to help me get through emotionally gruelling times. It can be restorative to have an activity that takes you into another world for a few moments as you immerse yourself in the music and the dance.
It is to be hoped that 2020 brings rain sooner rather than later! 
2020 will certainly bring some great tango events - see below.

At the end of November Sydney's Belen Silva performed with visiting teacher Sebastian Pereyra at the Sydney Tango Milonga held at the Bexley Community Club.

Carolina Bonaventura will visit our shores again late April, early May. In Sydney she will be hosted by Tango Sur and Tango Spirit
Cecilia Gonzalez will be back in June. She will be in Melbourne 2-7 June with Tango Esensia, Sydney 9-14 with Pablito's, Canberra 16- 21 with Tengo Tango and Adelaide 23-28 with Southern Cross Tango

Auckland Tango in New Zealand has launched the Oceania Tango Congress and Championship to be held in 19-22 March 2020.
This is an official preliminary championship for the main event which is held in Buenos Aires in August. 
Judges have been announced - they are Sol Cerquides and Fernando Gracia and Clarisa Aragon with Jonathan Saavreda.  
Fernando Gracia was the 2007 World Stage Champion and Sol Cerquides was the 2010 Campeona Metropolitana city champion in the milonga and also 4th place in the World for tango Salon category.
Jonathan and Clarisa were crowned World Champions in Tango de Pista at the Festival y Mundial de Tango (Tango World Championship)in 2015.
Early bird bookings for the non-official competitions have closed but the bookings for packages is open until 31 January. For more information go to the website. 
Festivals, weekends and special happenings

February 21-23, 2020. 
A weekend of tango at one of NSW's most beautiful coastal retreats. Milongas, workshops and dancing on the beach. A weekend away at the end of the Australian summer. 
Check it out now, as places are filling fast. 


27-29 March, 2020 - registrations are now open for this weekend of milongas and fabulous music at the glorious Collingwood Town Hall. Check out the program and register now to avoid disappointment.

Mendoza Tango Quartet with Daniel Rojas-Gonzales are touring Tasmania in January. They will be at the Cygnet Folk Festival held at the Port Cygnet Cannery, 50km south of Hobart. They will perform on the 10th, 11th and 12th January. Then they will visit Hobart where they will be performing at the Tasmanian Tango Club's Gala Milonga on Tuesday 14th at 8pm and at MONA on Wednesday 15th at 3pm - bring your dancing shoes!!
