HOPE ON CROWN:  OASIS UPDATE

Change is definitely in the air with another change of seasons and more changes for Oasis.

We have seen our Homelessness Network Director Lesley Butt and Operations Manager Thomas Austin move into new and exciting roles, whilst still maintaining a positive presence at the Network.  Congratulations to Lesley and Tom.

We have fondly bid farewell some longstanding staff members, welcomed new staff members and will soon welcome three 'little' new arrivals to the Oasis enclave.  Yes we are all about to become Oasis Aunts and Uncles when three of our valued staff members have their babies.  Exciting days ahead!

The Oasis team of Managers, Youth Workers and staff as a whole, continue to strive selflessly to improve the wellbeing of their young charges, achieving great outcomes.

So, another action packed couple of months for Oasis, here's a glimpse of what else has been happening.
Freeway Program
Weekly Virgin Active training sessions have proven a hit with the young people who have been enjoying Basketball, Touch Footy and general fitness activities.  These sessions are valuable not only for fitness but for team building and a special camaraderie is shared amongst the trainers, young people and staff.
For one staff member a lot less active and not quite as coordinated as the much younger young people, she also provides a constant source of amusement!
Thanks again to our great Virgin Active team who support Oasis and our young people, in particular Jon and James for turning these sessions into something special.
Pathways to Employment
Another successful Pathways program was concluded with five young people graduating in April, most of whom have now found employment.  With clear goals in sight at the commencement of their training, they are now well on their way to achieving these.
Interviews will soon be conducted for the next course commencing 14th June 2016 and running until 15th July 2016.  Any enquiries for this program should be directed to Pathways Coordinator Lukis Smith lukis.smith@aue.salvationarmy.org or
0448 321 276.
StreetMedia
The March Photography Course was another great success with our budding photographers excelling again.
As a grand finale, the Hopes and Dreams
photoshoot brought out much more than anticipated as many desires, aspirations, hopes and dreams were revealed.
StreetMedia has missed it's prize coordinator Jess Harris who has been touring New Zealand for the past month, so WELCOME BACK Jess, we've missed you!
Oasis Fundraising Update
The Larapinta Trail Challenge 2016 has been completed with tired legs but was a fantastic success all round.  WATCH THIS SPACE for some very exciting Larapinta fundraising news soon to be revealed!
Also soon to be announced is our special fundraising event of the year, so stay tuned...
THEY MADE IT!
Our Larapinta trekkers Katie Kirpatrick (Crisis Accommodation Youth Worker) and Major Bryce Davies (Inner City Mission Director) did Oasis proud by completing the challenge and raising much needed funds for Oasis.
A wonderful although exhausting experience was had by the team of ten who participated, trekking through rugged and mountainous terrain in the heart of Australia.

P.S.  Katie's stall at Surry Hills Markets early in April was a great success and helped her towards her fundraising target.
A BIG thank you to Jess in StreetMedia and
volunteer Leah for all their help!
