WEBSTER AREA:  Weyh selected for WADC internship program

Aaron Weyh, a Webster Area High School senior, will intern with our office for the next several weeks.

Weyh will assist with implementing a survey for high school seniors, promoting and tracking employment opportunities in Day County, and other special projects.

“We started this internship program in 2011 to offer high school seniors the opportunity to make a mark on their community as well as gain real-world experience,” said our executive director, Melissa Fose.
Weyh is the second senior to the WADC program, following Samantha Hommel in the spring of 2011. In the fall, Weyh plans to attend South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., to pursue a career in health care administration.

TIPS: Make good advertising ideas work for you (imitation is key)

Charles Caleb Colton had it right, which is why his famous quote, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, " has been borrowed so many times since he first said it in the late 1700s or early 1800s.

With that in mind, pay attention to advertisements which successfully catch your attention and get their messages to you. If an advertising strategy works on you, why not apply it to work for your own business marketing?

My favorite example is an advertisement on various sidewalk benches in Sioux Falls, S.D. The bench reads "You just proved that this sign works," with photos of a few smiling people and a phone number. This simple, effective form of business-to-business marketing appears to catch me every time.

Another example is the NFL's Super Bowl game. Companies spend countless hours working on new ad strategies (not to mention cash!) on this annual gathering of the best commercials. Many make us laugh (Doritos' "Goat 4 Sale") and others tug at our heartstrings (Ram's "Farmer").

No matter the emotion, I encourage you to step back to think about why the ad makes you feel that way. Then, consider how you can tweak the idea to work for your business.

Until next time,
