THE GREAT PEACH EXPERIMENT:
A third adventure is in the works...
and audio books are in development!
I am so pleased to officially share the news that my publisher Pixel + Ink / Holiday House have decided to continue the GREAT PEACH EXPERIMENT with a third installment in the series. Right now, this next Peach adventure is tentatively titled FROZEN PEACHES, and will publish in spring 2023.
In this story, the Peach family travels to chilly Sweden - in the middle of winter - to visit and stay at the world famous Icehotel, where they will have the chance to learn everything they need to know about running a popular tourist hotel from the very best of the best. While there, Herb, Freddy, and Lucy also get to experiment with sled dog racing, practice ice carving and design, and participate as a family in the Icehotel's annual FROZEN OLYMPICS!
I visited the Icehotel as an overnight guest many years ago, and am using that experience to help create this fun, fictional adventure for the Peach family!
In other exciting Peach news, I also just found out that the first three books in the series will all be published as AUDIO BOOKS! When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Peach Pie will release in audio later this year or early next spring, with future installments coming out around the release of the 2nd and 3rd physical book. HOORAY!!!
Don't forget that BOOK 2: THE PEACH PIT comes out in April! Add to Goodreads here.
Controlled Burn: Coming Fall 2022!
Earlier this year, I shared the news about my next middle-grade novel that will be published by Scholastic Press in Fall 2022. CONTROLLED BURN is the story of twelve-year-old Maia, who is battling some huge personal demons and anxieties, but begins to conquer her fears while spending the summer with her grandparents after her younger sister is badly burned in a house fire. If this sounds like it's up your alley, you can add it to your Want-to-Read list on Goodreads!
I've been working really hard on finishing touches for this novel this summer, and finally wrapped up the final draft a couple weeks ago. We should have a cover to share by the time I send out my next newsletter - stay tuned!!
In July, my 13-year-old son and I set out together to attempt to hike (and camp) approximately 100 miles on the Superior Hiking Trail - a 270-mile trail that runs along the North Shore of Lake Superior. This trip came together in part to spend some quality time exploring the outdoors with my amazing son, and in part to research a new book I've been working on. It was, by far, the most enjoyable and rewarding research I have ever done!
Because I wanted the setting and emotions of the hike in my novel-in-progress to feel as accurate and impactful as possible, I knew I’d need to live through a similar trail experience - and luckily, Henry was up for going on the adventure with me. We faced dozens of setbacks, including a whole carload of stolen gear, a bear encounter, injuries, a significant lack of water (due to the summer drought), haze and smoke from nearby forest fires, and total exhaustion. Even though it was tempting to quit (many times!), we made it 100 miles in a little less than two weeks. The story I'm writing is coming along so well, and I absolutely love getting to revisit my own big trip with Henry while I'm writing Jo's story!
I REALLY miss seeing kids face-to-face to talk about reading, writing, idea-generation, research, and revision. I would love to get back to visiting schools in person as soon as possible, but since it doesn't look like that's going to happen much this year, I wanted to remind you - my beautiful and friendly newsletter subscribers - that I also offer virtual visits. While I really don't think virtual visits can compare to the benefit of an all-day, in-person author visit, they are cheaper than in-person visits, easier to organize, and you can cram every single kid in your school into one visit session from the comfort of their own classroom!
If you'd like to book a virtual visit (or want to chat about the possibility of me coming to see you in person - I'm vaccinated!), please visit my website for tons of info, pricing, and details!
SPECIAL OFFER: Every school that books a paid visit with me this school year will get a set of all 4 books in THE QUIRKS series + a free bookmark for every student!
