This email contains the event instructions for round 2 of the 2014 Stinger duathlons. Please read it carefully.
Event sponsors/ prizes
Round 2 is sponsored by Velotive, who have provided all the prizes.
The top 3 men and women in each category will receive a trophy and a prize.
Prize givings will take place as soon as possible after each race.
Collecting your numbers
You can collect your number and event memento from registration from 0900.
You will be given two numbers:
Bike number - please mount this on the front of your bike, over the top of the cables so that the number can be read easily by the timekeepers.
Run number - please pin this to the front of your jersey
Relay competitors - Your cyclist needs the bike number only , your runner needs the run number only.
Pre-riding the mountain bike course
You can pre-ride the mountain bike course if you want to. The course will be open to pre-ride from 0900. There may be marshals in place by then, but you pre-ride at your own risk.
There will be a transition area for solo competitors to rack their bikes from 0900.
You will only be allowed into transition if you have a run number on your chest (no spectators in transition please).
Please rack your bike neatly and leave your helmet and shoes underneath your own bike.
It's a good idea to spend a bit of time looking at where you will come in and out of the transition area after each leg, to avoid mid race confusion!
Relay competitors hand over area
Relay competitors will have your own hand over area where you will wait for your partner.
Transition area/ Relay area rules
Both areas will have 'dismount' and 'mount' signage on the way in and out.
You must not ride inside the transition areas - you will be disqualified for doing so.
Solo competitors must put your helmets on BEFORE you touch your bikes when getting ready for the bike leg. When you return from the bike leg you must rack your bike BEFORE taking off your helmets.
Relay riders should wait in the change over area with your helmets already on.
Relay competitors must tag their partners when changing over
The first run will be on trails, and the ground will be uneven so off road trainers will be best.
The mountain bike route will be on trails, with a mix of singletrack and doubletrack. It will be hilly and reasonably technical in places. Although you are allowed to ride a cyclocross or hybrid bike on the course, it is not recommended - a mountain bike will be a much more suitable weapon!
The final run will be very muddy and will involve steep climbs and descents, bogs, very deep puddles and other fun obstacles. Please take that extra time in transition to make sure your shoes are done up tightly!
Cyclists will need to be self sufficient on the bike course - although we hope you don't have any mechanical problems, it's a good idea to carry an inner tube, tyre levers, a pump and a multitool and chain tool just in case.
The Plymouth Air Cadets will kindly be marshalling the event for us. If you have any problems, please get yourself to the next marshal who will be able to radio race HQ for advice.
If you see another competitor who needs help, please let the nearest marshal know.
Parking can be quite tight at Newnham Park. Please park according to the instructions of our car park marshals. If you can share a lift with another competitor, that would be great.
Rockets and Rascals cafe
Rockets and Rascals will be serving up tasty snacks and lovely hot drinks before, during and after the event.
There are toilets on site, but no showers.
Please try to keep the toilets as mud free as possible
Please remove your muddy shoes before entering the event HQ
Race results will be printed off when all competitors have finished.
We will also post the results on the Fully Sussed website as soon as we get home.
