Basis are recipients of Safer Communities Fund!

Basis Training were awarded a grant of £5250 for the work in raising awareness of the risks of sexual exploitation and grooming of young people in schools, working in cooperating with our partner organisation BLAST which we hope will enable us to reach a much wider number of schools in Leeds than we have previously been able to reach. Charlotte Carter and Amber Wilson attended the ceremony, hosted by PCC Mark Burns - Williamson. 
 
 

Genesis Drop-In

Genesis Drop in is every Wednesday from 1:30pm – 4:30pm. We are now structuring each session with relaxing activities, helpful workshops and visitors from other agencies. Here is the timetable that takes us up to Christmas. Feel free to come along with a service user, or let them know what we are up to!

National & International Awards for National Ugly  Mugs 
 
Genesis coordinates the local Leeds ugly mugs reporting scheme for sex workers , the scheme is a member of the award winning National Ugly Mugs (NUM)  scheme run by UK Network of Sex Work Projects (UKNSWP). Genesis CEO Rosie Campbell,  with other members of  UKNSWP, was involved in advocating for NUM for many years and carried  out the development project which lead to the establishment of the scheme funded by the Home Office in it's initial phase. The innovative nature of the scheme and it's success in improving sex worker safety has been recognised with the scheme winning a number of awards. In October 2014 it won the "Small Charity Big Achiever" award  in the Third Sector Awards . In early November Rosie was with Alex Bryce (Manager of NUM) & Georgina Perry Chair of UKNSWP to receive the International Paulo Pertica Award at  City Health conference, in Amsterdam.

17th December 2014 - International Day to end Violence Against Sex Workers

Genesis will be marking the International Day to End Violence Against Sex workers this year with a number of events - keep an eye out on our website and twitter (Website: http://www.genesisleeds.org.uk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Genesisleeds) for further details. This will include an event hosted with West Yorkshire Police at Elland Road Police station in the morning. 


 

Meet Amber, our new Business Development Manager for Basis Training!

Amber Wilson is the new Business Development Manager at Basis training. Amber Wilson’s experience of working both in the private and third sector in a variety of roles brings a wealth of experience to the organisation. In addition her experience in marketing and relationship management in the private sector, she has managed the consultancy and bespoke training services on a wide range of topics for a not for profit NGO training and consultancy centre. Prior to joining Basis, she was a Program Manager for a charity working with children and their families who have experienced abuse and violence at home or on the streets. Whether you require bespoke in-house training, research conducting, an evaluation of your organisation’s services, want to purchase our online resources or just have a general query, Amber will be happy to discuss your needs and provide your organisation with the right solution.
