Genesis raises £1554.00 from the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge

It was perhaps the wettest day of the year when the Genesis and Gratterpalm team set out on our 3 Peaks Challenge on the 7th June. The team completed the challenge in under 12 hours and we're delighted to announce that so far we've raised £1554.00! With donations still coming in. We'd like to thank all of our supporters so far including Gratterpalm, your donations and kind words of encouragement meant alot to us when we battled hail, mist and rain! What a great achievement. You can still donate here

We'd also like to say Congratulations to our Chair of Trustees Dr Kate Brown who swam the Great North Swim and raised £1200 for Genesis. Thanks Kate and friends your efforts are hugely appreciated. To see photos click here
Certificate of Appreciation

Two of our volunteers Christina Cornberg and Nicky Pickup were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Tom Murray, at an event on Tuesday 27th May to recognise all of the good work done by volunteers in the city. This event was to celebrate the end of his year in office, and National Volunteers’ Week from 1-7th June.
Nicky has volunteered for Genesis for 18 months, supporting our drop in and weekly street outreach sessions. Christina has volunteered for Genesis for the last 3 years on street outreach sessions, as well as volunteering for 2 years for the Independent Visitors Scheme supporting young care leavers. The awards were presented in recognition of their voluntary work and ‘outstanding contribution to the citizens and communities of Leeds.’ Well done ladies we are very proud of you, and your continued support of Genesis.

Tour de Yorkshire - lets do something good!

Basis wants to acknowledge our Yorkshire heritage and celebrate the Grand Tour departing from just outside our offices on Saturday 5th July 2014! We want to use this time to do something positive and so are offering all customers 10% off our in-house training if booked before 29th August 2014. The training can take place any-time before end of December 2014. Contact Charlotte for further details!

Isis ex service user group is starting in June and we are very excited about this!  It is important to Isis that we give young people a voice and that we get their views and give them an opportunity to influence not only the direct work we do with young people, but also wider issues. Working in partnership with the CSE and Missing Coordinator who sits in the Integrated Safeguarding Unit for Leeds City Council, so that she can get young people's perspective on the CSE strategy for the city, this increases our multi agency working with the council and social care.
The purpose of the group will be for the young people to have a voice and be more than their CSE experiences.  They will have input on the young person's 1 to 1 core session plans and how to update, and  gather info on what and how young people use the internet / social media and how to develop resources

MP Hilary Benn Visits Genesis
On 16th May the Genesis Team were  very pleased to host Hilary Benn MP for Central Leeds and his Senior Case Worker Olivia Szostak.  Hilary took a great deal of interest in all aspects of the work we do with vulnerable women and girls in the City.
