Welcome to Carolyn, the Advice and Support worker for Genesis

We are so pleased to welcome Carolyn Henham to the adult team who is starting this month as the Advice and Support Worker. Her work will be focussed on advice around housing and benefits, and also supporting women to get into drug treatment. These were the key issues we found that women were facing when we did a scoping exercise in October 2013. We are so pleased that Carolyn has joined the team and we know the women will make very good use out of her service.

Sexualised Trauma Training by Zoe Loderick

The teams at Genesis and Isis had some training on 2nd September, by Zoe Loderick, a sexualised trauma specialist. This was a massively insightful session that has taught us the neurological reasons behind why people often think they may fight in a sexual trauma situation but instead tend to freeze. The team all felt that it had increased their knowledge and skills when working with women who have had these experiences, and it has equipt us with some useful tools and understanding.

Introducing the lionesses…

Here at Isis we have been busy trying to involve past service users in the development of our work. Thanks to the Wades Foundation we have been able to start up an ex-service user group, to continue to engage young people when they have finished working with us 1-2-1, and to use their knowledge and expertise to help us shape our 1-2-1 support package and to be a group that other professionals across the city can come to for advice and guidance about CSE and more. We have met four times and spent the sessions getting to know each other and establishing what they want the group to be about.
If you want to meet with the group, or have any freebies that you would like to donate to the group, then please contact us on carwenjones@btconnect.com or 0113 2430036.

Huge Thank You to Wades Charity!

We were pleased to learn that we had been successful in being awarded a grant of £2,500 from Wade's Charity to support the activities of the Lionesses.   This will really help the group get involved in a range of activities to build confidence and skills.  Wade's charitable trust provides grant funding for the benefit of the inhabitants of the inner city of Leeds.
