Your smile could be paying the price for your stress
More and more, we are becoming aware of the potential impact that stress can have on health. You may be surprised to learn that includes oral health. Poor hygiene habits are often blamed for decay, gum disease, and other oral health conditions. Although that is a common cause, it is not the only factor.

Clenching or grinding teeth, a condition known as bruxism, can occur during sleep or while awake, and it is a common response to stress or anger. It can cause wear and tear on the teeth or even fractures, which, can lead to infection, decay, gum disease, and other oral health conditions. Like the rest of your body, your teeth need good nutrition to maintain optimal health. Eating habits are often the first thing to fall victim to a hectic schedule, so stress and poor nutrition often occur simultaneously.

Although it may be tempting to skip dental appointments if your schedule is already overbooked, this may be the worst possible time to neglect your smile.

Sleep Apnea News

In February, I gave a first time talk at the local San Francisco chapter of A.W.A.K.E. (Alert, Well, And Keeping Energetic), a support and educational group for people with sleep apnea and their families. I spoke and answered many great questions for over an hour about dental oral appliances as an alternative to CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask therapy. The response from the attendees was positive, and I was happy to be asked to speak again sometime in the future.

If you or someone you know has the signs of sleep apnea or are using a CPAP mask and prefer an alternative, call us to see if a dental oral appliance is an option

Accepted to Dental Hygiene School!
In our March 2015 newsletter, we introduced Peggy Wang, our new and talented Registered Dental Assistant. In the last few months, she had quickly become one of our family, so we are very happy about her recent acceptance to the Carrington College's dental hygiene school in San Jose. Her last day with us was at the end of April.

A Sunday Morning Hike
One of the best areas to hike in San Francisco is the area around Lands End. I last hiked this trail probably 30 years ago. Back then, I remember this area being one of a couple areas in San Francisco that made you feel you were not in a big metropolitan city but in a true wilderness area. I also never hiked the section north of Baker Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge. So with this whole area from the Cliff House to the Golden Gate Bridge being recently renovated, I was curious what lay ahead. Read more
