BUY BOOKS AND SUPPORT KIWI KIDS

Kiwi Christmas Books collects brand new books to gift to Kiwi kids doing it tough at Christmas - those young people using the services of the City Missions, the Women’s Refuges, and other great charities around the country. They are calling on Kiwis across the country to donate a book to a kid in need in their own town or city. Board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade, Young Adult fiction, non-fiction, reference - anything goes! (Although even better if it is a book by a New Zealand-based author or illustrator - that way you can support local writers and publishers, as well as our kids.) Buy or drop off at your local bookshop, or order online and have it delivered directly. Full details here. Donations are open until 14 December.

VOTE FOR THE
TOP 50
WOMEN WRITERS

The new film, Oliver Sacks: His Own Life, explores the life and work of the legendary neurologist and storyteller, as he shares intimate details of his battles with drug addiction, homophobia, and a medical establishment that accepted his work only decades after the fact. Sacks was a fearless explorer of unknown mental worlds who helped redefine our understanding of the brain and mind, the diversity of human experience, and our shared humanity. We have one prize pack including a book and film tickets to give away, and three additional double-passes to the film. Enter to win by 2 December.

Who are the best women writers since 1970? Patricia Grace? Margaret Atwood? Toni Morrison? Ann Patchett? Keri Hulme? Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie? Eleanor Catton? Bernardine Evaristo? Janet Frame? Hilary Mantel? Every five years The Women's Bookshop asks the readers of New Zealand to select their top 10 women writers of the past 50 years. The 50 writers receiving the most votes will be ranked and the 2020 list will be announced at the Fifty-Fifty Winning Women Party, in-store on Mon 14 Dec, 6-8pm, 105 Ponsonby Road.
