Squashes of All Shapes and Sizes

This Sunday take a stroll by Nuñez Organics and Ibarra Farms to pick up summer squash of all shapes and sizes. You'll find a little bit of everything from long and skinny to round and flat. That translates into Button squash, Romanesco Zucchini, Cook Neck, Yellow Scalloped Zucchini and don't forget Patty Pan squash. 
These delicious summer squash are picked early so their skins are still tender and edible. At this time of year, squash are most flavorful when cooked within a few days of purchase. Their delicious flavors, along with those powerful antioxidants, belong on your summer menu. 

While at the Market
Marcos of Patatas will be offering up some delicious Labor Day weekend paella. Watch him prepare it right before your eyes then get ready for some good eatin'.

Mix It Up
In the morning from 10-noon the Ray Cepeda Group returns to the market with everything from Samba to Salsa.
In the afternoon enjoy the sounds of a creative collaboration of musicians known as Trombonga.
This trombone jazz quartet will be swinging from noon to 2pm.

Summer Squash with Garlic & Herbs

Start with fresh, small squashes, olive oil, fresh garlic, fresh lemon juice, basil.

1.Trim the squashes and cut into slices of equal thickness.
2. Sauté in olive oil until tender & just beginning to brown.
3. Add a generous amount of freshly-chopped garlic and basil (or other herbs), and season with salt and pepper.
4. Cook just a minute more, until the garlic releases its aroma; squeeze over a bit of lemon juice, and serve.
