Good Afternoon Dear Customers

It's a short and business-like newsletter for you this time folks, with just three items on the agenda.

We've got our first couple of Virtual Tastings under our belt, and we think we're getting the hang of it, so in this email we have news of what the plan is for July, including something very special for Saturday the 4th.

It's Father's Day this Sunday, which means you still have time to place your orders and have a delicious liquid gift delivered to his door. See below for a reminder of our delivery options at the moment, plus a couple of new arrivals which would make great gifts.

Lastly, as from next week, you'll be able to place orders for click and collect. It's on a limited basis, between the hours of 12 noon - 2pm and from Tuesday to Friday only. When we have your order ready you'll be notified by email, and then you'll be able to collect it from our Wine & Beer shop at 105 West Nile Street, G1 2SD (NOT from the spirits shop on Bath Street). The click and collect option will go live on our website this coming weekend, and collections will start from Tuesday 23rd June.

(Don't forget that, if you are in the West End, our Clarence Drive shop is open 11am-7pm from Monday to Saturday for walk-in customers.)

And that's it. Thanks for your continued support, and we hope to see you on the zoom some time soon.

Tastings for July 2020

Having announced four tastings, and with two done and dusted, we've realised that there's a bunch of complications that just didn't apply when we could run events in the shop, so for July we're going to do things a little differently. Your experience of the tastings themselves will be the same (or better!) but we'll be more organised and be able to offer you an improved service.

We plan to do two tastings a week throughout July, on Thursdays and Saturdays. We'll announce the tastings two at a time, and two weeks in advance. Here's the schedule:

Thursday 2nd & Saturday 4th July: tickets on sale Thursday 18th June

Thursday 9th & Saturday 11th July: tickets on sale Thursday 25th June

Thursday 16th & Saturday 18th July: tickets on sale Thursday 2nd July

Thursday 23rd & Saturday 25th July: tickets on sale Thursday 9th July

Thursday 30th July & Saturday 1st August: tickets on sale Thursday 16th July

You can expect the tastings to go online around teatime each Thursday, but of course we'll be sure to mention it on social media.

And finally, if you're one of those who was booked in for an event back in March or April and very kindly elected to defer your booking, we'll be in touch soon to see if one of our forthcoming dates will be suitable for you..

Father's Day

If you haven't sorted something out for your dad, there's still plenty of a little time to do so. We offer a free local delivery service for addresses within six miles of our Bath Street shop, and we use DHL Overnight Express for the rest of the UK.

So those of you with Glasgow based dads have until 1pm on Friday to get your orders in, while the further flung fathers should be ordered ASAP, and in any case by 12 noon on Thursday the 18th.

Full details on our delivery page here.

Logistics aside, can we suggest a couple of tasty bottles which might tempt the paternal palate:

Kilchoman Am Bùrach

Those of you who remember the Ardbeg Serendipity (if you don't, ask your dad) will appreciate how distillers can make a virtue of necessity and turn a mistake into something tasty.

In this case, it's a batch of Kilchoman Machir Bay which was accidentally vatted with spirit from port casks back in 2014, then put back into barrels and out of the way as being 'Am Bùrach' - a mess. Six years down the line and it's evolved into something really rather tasty - think smoky raspberry trifle.

Kilchoman Am Bùrach, £79, 70cl/46%

Summer Cup No.7

Our latest summer cup uses our very own Eclectic Gin Society Original Blend, Cynar, El Bandarra Vermouth, Dolin Chamberyzette, and Lemon Bitters. Delicious with fizz, it also tastes great mixed with tonic.

Good Spirits Co. Summer Cup No. 7, £12.50, 20cl/25%

Bodegas Urbina Reserva Especial 1998

A new vintage of an old favourite. Urbina has been our most popular Rioja ever since our Wine & Beer shop opened in 2016, and you'll only need one sip of this to see why. Elegant and attractive, it has concentrated, ripe fruit and excellent length. It's a truly classy, complex wine.

Bodegas Urbina Reserva Especial 1998, £21.60, 75cl/13.5%

Little Pomona Hard Rain Quince

Our good friends James, Susanna, and Blair at Little Pomona are really hitting it out of the park this year, with a series of fascinating and tasty releases. This is a modern reinterpretation of an old tradition, ciderkin. With lush exotic fruit notes from the quince, at only 3.8% it's also wonderfully refreshing.

Little Pomona Hard Rain Quince, £6.80, 75cl/3.8%
