Those who knew the husband and wife said they moved into the home with their teenage daughter not long ago. But friends told us the husband lost his job, and that caused relationship problems.

State could override local tenant laws

After some cities and counties have passed ordinances about renters’ rights, a Florida House panel on Monday approved a bill that would lead to state law trumping local regulations governing landlords and tenants.

The Republican-controlled House Civil Justice Subcommittee voted 11-5 along party lines to support the bill (HB 1417), which sponsor Tiffany Esposito, R-Fort Myers, said would bring “consistency” across the state.

Crews begin sand stockpiling for future berm project on Fort Myers Beach

Forecast: From cold to warm Tuesday

Daytime highs will push into the low to mid 80s for most of Southwest Florida today, which will make for another gorgeous day in our part of the country.

Expect a full blast of sunshine today without any clouds from this morning through the afternoon.

The dry soil and low humidity will lead to another day with a high fire danger, and remember, outdoor burning is banned for Hendry, Lee, and Collier County.

Saving ourselves in the Studio Players’ ‘Saving Kitty’

Parents typically want their kids to be happy. And the wise ones know there comes a time when they just need to let go; they can’t dictate their children’s careers or who they’ll date or marry. When we first meet Kate (Hollis Galman) and her husband Huntley (Dave Mancini) in “Saving Kitty” (at the Studio Players through March 26), they’re waiting for their daughter Kitty (McKenna Cloud) to arrive. She’s bringing home a guy she wants them to meet.
