Love in is the air

Lucy Moore
Love is in the air this month. While St Valentine doesn’t seem to have been particularly messy, his last letter (signed ‘your Valentine’) was written just before being executed in Rome for his faith. Perhaps his day is a good reminder of how close love is to suffering and how love for those in our households and in our churches often tiptoes close to pain.
Valentine is also the patron saint of beekeepers and epileptics, so love is evidently a wide-reaching concept. Perhaps we should send anonymous pink cards to our local Beekeepers’ Association this year…

Two conferences to help you feel the love

Messtival 2021
Messtival 2021 will be a fantastic weekend in Littleover in Derbyshire when we celebrate Messy Church across the UK. There’ll be a gathering on the Friday night. On Saturday there’ll be a wildly fun and informative full-day conference for Messy leaders young and old, new and experienced, with bags of workshops and activities for all ages from eight up. And on the Sunday we’ll have a sponsored Messy Walk in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales for all the family. It’s going to be such good value, you’ll be able to bring your whole team. We’ll put out more information in due course, but do make a note of the date: 25–27 June 2021.
Messy Church International Conference
Messy Church International Conference 2022 will be taking place at The Hayes Conference Centre in Derbyshire 20–22 May 2022 (followed by 23–24 May when key international leaders are invited to stay on in a similar pattern to the 2019 conference). These are ‘save the dates’ at the moment: more details to follow.

Deepening Discipleship tugs the heartstrings

Deepening Discipleship map with islands
The Deepening Discipleship project in Bristol, Durham and Hereford keeps on growing and making huge strides in our understanding of how people grow in faith through Messy Church.
The URC are running a very similar project through the CYDO network, which is probably happening in a church near you: if you belong to the URC and would like to join in, please contact your local CYDO. At a recent research gathering of the churches involved, here are the words the leaders used to describe in one word how things are so far with the pilot: Intriguing (x2), Challenging, Opportunity, Hungry, Daring, Coming alive, Starting, Surprising (x2), Fun, Noisy, Risk-taking, Wonder.

Could you give regularly to support us?

If you share our vision of transforming lives through the Christian faith, could you give regularly to support Messy Church? We can only keep the Messy Mission alive with the help of people like you.
Donate to Messy Church
If you’re feeling the pain that walks alongside love at the moment, take heart that Jesus knows that feeling too and walks alongside your pain and your love, carrying what you just can’t at the moment. And as you love and serve the families who belong to your Messy Church this month, may you all become even more aware of his loving presence with you in the messiness.
