Pray with us... Weekly prayer update

Week beginning Sunday 12 September 2021

I will sing to the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice in the Lord.

Psalm 104:33–34 (NIV)
Dear friends

Thank you for your prayers for the online Parenting for Faith certificate and for the Anna Chaplaincy online training course, both of which got off to a great start last week with new groups of learners. The autumn Messy Church training programme starts this week with two Messy Masterclasses; there’s also the first Messy Meet-Up of the autumn for Messy Church leaders, which will be exploring the challenges of returning to on-site Messy Church. We’ve been very encouraged to hear stories of Messy Churches that have been able at last to meet in person once again, and we give thanks for all Messy Church leaders, their teams and the families that attend.

We’re delighted that more BRF books have been selected for The Big Church Read, an initiative that encourages churches, organisations and individuals to commit to read through a chosen book together at a chosen time, meeting in small groups, either in person or online, to talk about what they’ve read. Earlier in the year Comfortable Words by Bishop Stephen Croft was featured; A Christian Guide to Environmental Issues by Margot and Martin Hodson is now also part of the programme, while Deep Calls to Deep by Tony Horsfall and Comfort in the Darkness by Rachel Turner will be added in the coming weeks. We pray for all involved in organising The Big Church Read and for all who take part, that the books they read together may have a deep and lasting impact.

Bill Lattimer is principal of The Douglas Trust, a family trust which supports the work of our Parenting for Faith ministry. In the first of our new series of articles on hearing God’s call, he tells us why this ministry is so important to the Trust and why supporting it is a response to God’s call. Towards the end of a fascinating interview he says: ‘If we do not bring our children up in the faith of Christ, although nothing is ever hopeless under God, the future of the church looks difficult, to put it no more strongly than that. So this is absolutely vital work that needs to be supported.’
