Creation care – making a difference

With the crucial international climate change conference, COP26, underway, we begin a new series of online articles focusing on our Christian response to the environmental emergency we all face. We begin by drawing on A Christian Guide to Environmental Issues by Martin and Margot Hodson, in which they state:
'A crucial environmental truth of the Christian faith is that Jesus was physically born among us and resurrected in a physical (bodily) form. Both these key teachings affirm the material world and challenge us to engage with it.'

Climate change isn't the only emergency we're facing. This week we remember the wonderful work our Anna Chaplaincy team is doing to tackle loneliness among older people by training the church to provide informed and skilled ministry in this area.

110 Anna Chaplains and Anna Friends trained for service

As one online course for prospective and licensed Anna Chaplains and Anna Friends across the UK concludes, our church lead for the ministry, Julia Burton-Jones, launches another. Soon 110 people will have completed the course with BRF or in one of our Anna Chaplaincy regional training hubs in Cumbria, Wales and Kent. As a couple of course participants said:
'Thank you, Julia. You have been an amazing group leader. Thank you to everyone for being such wonderful companions on this journey.'

'Thank you all for your company over the last six weeks. Thank you for a brilliant course - so much learned and to think about.'

Pray with us

Lord, we’ve seen plastics choking sea creatures.
Lord, we’ve witnessed heatwaves setting forests on fire.
Lord, we’ve watched icebergs drift and melt.
Lord, we’ve heard of animal life that has become extinct.
Lord, your word tells us that all creation is waiting
for us to become the people you made us to be.
Help us to grow up and fulfil that high calling
by your grace and for the sake of your kingdom.
Amen
