Today I learned...
It's never too late to celebrate.
My husband, Jim can be a very patient man. His birthday was on the 11, but between an early morning speaking gig, all day training, his rehearsals for an upcoming play, and a Toastmaster's board induction (Happy Birthday, Mr. President!), we didn't have time to celebrate (or really be together). I promised him we'd make it up in style. He said it was one of his best birthdays ever, as he got to spend a large portion of it doing things he loves.
Today was the first day we were able to take the time to have breakfast together, so I cooked him up some thick sliced bacon (his favorite thing in the world) and made French toast with raisin Ezekiel bread and real, organic maple syrup. As I set the plate in front of him, I wished him a happy birthday. His smile could light up the darkest night.
So worth it.
We still have a movie and dinner date later, probably next week. I'll round off his birthday festivities with a thoughtful present he doesn't know is coming. (Well, at least until he reads this.)
We've had to delay several celebrations this year, as I was in a different state caring for a friend through Christmas and New Years. We left the tree up and the presents ungiven until we could be together again. It didn't matter what day it was, we still celebrated the season and kissed at midnight.
What parts of your life have you missed celebrating because you were too busy? A new job? A new child? A finished task, weight loss, or financial goal? It's never too late to celebrate - in fact, make life one big celebration and you'll find even more to be grateful for!
