Happy Friday! The weekend is just about here! Are you ready?
Will Smith is one of my favorite actors. The guy is transcendent, ya know? I really enjoyed "The Pursuit of Happyness"...makes you believe A N Y-thing is possible with relentless, hard work and never-say-die persistence!
Speaking of Will, have you ever seen the "Will2k" music video he did? In the beginning of the video (check it out if you haven't - it's cool!), Will stands up in front of his guests and says something awesome that, in my opinion, is damn profound:
"My daddy told me one time, you don't know where you're going until you know where you've been."
That awesomeness from Will brings me to the subject of today's email.
Do you remember when I told you I was going to share with you how tobest handle your off-season to ensure YOU have your BEST season ever in 2016? Well, today's the day we get started. I really want you to succeed. I want you to be great! So, to that end, starting today I'm going to share with you some of what I've learned over the last 35 years as an athlete and coach.
So where do YOU begin?
It's simple: you begin by taking a step back to LOOK back, just as Will said, at this past season. To help YOU accomplish that, I'm sharing my Season Summary Questionnaire (SSQ for short!) The SSQ is a great tool to assist you in evaluating your recent season while it is still fresh in your mind, so that you can better prepare and plan for next season's training and racing.
To make the most of this process, you need to be honest, open-minded, and objective. You need to be able to look in the mirror. Can you do that,<<First Name>>?
You'll want to consider everything that you have done as an athlete this past season. Think about what worked, what didn't, how training fit into your life, what races you enjoyed, what races you want to do next season, etc.
Know THIS my friend, cause it's the truth: Your ability to consistently improve in the upcoming season (and beyond) depends upon your willingness to objectively and accurately assess where you are (and then use that information to move forward).
