HERE ARE SOME MORE FANTASTIC WORKSHOPS OFFERED!

Sing with All Our Skill

“Why aren’t they singing?” is a mantra of liturgists, music ministers, religious educators and youth ministers, alike.  Culturally, singing is perceived by many as a risk.  Our society reinforces the roles of “performer” and “audience.”  However, these obstacles can be overcome. We’ve all experienced a singing, praying, passionate congregation. The fact is there is not one factor but many that help people to enter into communal prayer. Take time to evaluate the “sing ability” of your liturgy and prayer, and learn strategies to create greater participation in your parish prayer.

Engaging Youth in Parish Liturgies
If the Liturgy is the work of the people, then parish liturgies are not complete if our youth are not present and fully engaged. There are a myriad of reasons that this can be difficult. Perhaps the first and most overlooked is that, statistically, the majority of our youth are not coming to mass at all! Anything we do to make mass more “youth friendly” only has an impact if they are able to experience it. This workshop is designed to help you take stock of the things we are doing and can do, both inside and outside of the Sunday liturgy, to facilitate the engagement and involvement of youth.

Essential Skills for Contemporary Music Leaders
Effectively integrating contemporary music into liturgical prayer requires skill and understanding. Instrumentation, amplification, as well as the theology and liturgical function of each piece are critically important. When someone says “Contemporary music does not belong in the Mass”, there’s a good chance that they have experienced it done poorly. Yet many of us have also experienced it done well. Contemporary music effectively expresses the prayer of much of our congregation, particularly when we learn to allow the prayer of the people to take precedence over performance of the music.
