Local World Youth Day

The Office of Youth Ministry would like to extend a major special thank you for the successful Local World Youth Day. The event would not have been the same without each and everyone of you. Even though the weather was not ideal, Christ was still present among the community and for that we are thankful.

The Office of Youth Ministry is here for you!
We want to assist you in any areas that you may need help. Although we can all assist you, here is a list of all parishes and how they will be divided among the staff so each parish will have specific contact person in the Office.

2018-2019 Office of Youth Ministry Calendar
Compliance with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ “Charter for the Protection of Children & Youth”
For those who are responsible to update background screenings and PGC training:
This is a reminder to update the two background screenings (State Criminal & Sex Offender) at this time for any employee or volunteer whose screenings have expired or will expire in the next month or so.  These two background screenings expire every 7 years.  The employee or volunteer is to fill out a new “Background Screening Questionnaire” and attach a copy of their Driver’s License.  The screenings will take about 2 weeks to process.
No person may be hired as an employee until after the screenings are completed and the person is cleared for hire.
No person may be accepted for volunteer service with children & youth until after the screenings are completed and the person is cleared to volunteer.
In addition, at this time please contact those whose PGC training has expired or will expire in the next month or so, and request that they recertify their training through the on-line module on the diocesan website or by attending another in-person PGC session.  They are to provide you with a copy of their new certificate so you can update your database.  Please follow through so these employees or volunteers comply with this requirement.
Remember:  PGC training expires every 5 years.  Also, every new employee and every new volunteer who works with children & youth must attend the initial in-person PGC training session within the first 60 days of hire or volunteer service.  The schedule of PGC sessions are on our diocesan website, under the “Safe Environment” tab / “Awareness Sessions”.
Note:  Whether it is a parish office staff person or the parish catechetical leader who is responsible for all of the above, each one must keep the other informed when updates are completed.
Please contact me if you have questions about these compliance requirements.
