NoMa BID Annual Meeting
Mark your calendars for the NoMa BID's Annual Meeting. Each year, hundreds of NoMa stakeholders and friends gather to celebrate this great and growing neighborhood. This year's Annual Meeting will be held at 111 K Street, NE on Wednesday, April 29. Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the program begins at 6 PM.

2014 was another really big year in NoMa, with thousands of new residents, free public WiFi, parks initiatives and more! NoMa BID President Robin-Eve Jasper will give a synopsis of the BID’s successes over the past year and a sneak preview of the exciting new initiatives on the horizon. Awards will be presented to stakeholders who have made a significant impact in the NoMa neighborhood, and NoMa BID Members will vote for the newest class of the Board of Directors. Click here to RSVP for this free event. Special thank you to New Boston Fund Inc. for providing event space at 111 K Street, NE. Please click here to view NoMa BID’s Annual Report for FY 2014.
What's Under Construction?
Douglas Development received its permits for Uline Arena, and will soon begin its extensive renovation of this historic building. Built in 1945 and acquired by Douglas Development in 2004, Uline Arena is best known for hosting the first Beatles concert in North America in 1964.

The redevelopment of Uline Arena will create a 244,000 SF mixed-use development, including a 52,000 SF REI  flagship store. REI's store in NoMa will be its first in DC, and an interactive experience, with classroom spaces, hands-on activities and outdoor excursions. In addition to REI, the building will feature 20,000 SF of additional retail space and 170,000 SF of commercial office space on the top three floors.

Currently, more than 1.7 million SF of office, residential, and mixed-use projects are under construction or about to break ground in the neighborhood! This is the first in a regular series on construction updates in NoMa.

Art Reception at Gallery NK
Head over to Gallery NK this Thursday for an opening reception of photography by Chad Bartlett. On March 26 from 6-9 PM experience Burundi, an East African country bordered by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, through the lens of DC-based documentary photographer and filmmaker Chad Bartlet. The photographs explore the resilience of a people recovering from a period of politically fueled ethnic conflict.  The Ambassador of Burundi, H.E. Ernest Ndabashinze, will attend the reception.

If you can't make the opening reception, the exhibit will remain on display until April 17, and there will be a closing reception with an artist talk and Burundian coffee on Friday, April 17 from 4-8 PM. Gallery NK is located at 321 K Street, NE.
Help Protect Birds in NoMa

Migratory birds face many hazards in cities, as they are drawn to warm lights and glass. The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the American Bird Conservancy estimate that many birds die annually due to building collisions on their migratory route. Help keep birds safe by turning lights off in your office building and home between 11 PM and 6 AM, lower shades at night, and keep plants out of direct view from the outdoors.

Click here to find out more about preventing bird building collisions. Free building assessments and on-site tips for bird safety can be arranged through NoMa BID Hospitality Program Manager Otavio Thompson.
