Tonight: Moonrise Kingdom at NoMa Summer Screen
Moonrise Kingdom is playing at NoMa Summer Screen on Wednesday, July 17. Come out to the Loree Grand Field at Second and L Streets, NE to connect with friends, coworkers, and family under the stars to watch this Wes Anderson blockbuster. Bring a picnic, cooler, Frisbee, blanket, and your friendly (leashed) dog. Popped! Republic, Orange Cow, TaKorean, DC Empanadas and Doug the Food Dude will be serving up your favorite culinary delights. Across the street, the team at Union Kitchen is hosting a happy hour-style hang-out with food trucks, beer, and music at their Lot at Third & L Streets, NE. The fun starts at 7 p.m. and the film starts at sunset. All movies are screened with subtitles. NoMa Summer Screen is organized by the NoMa BID. Site is provided by Toll Brothers Apartment Living. Evening Concert Thursday at Union Kitchen
Hear live music Thursday night at the Union Kitchen Lot! A commercial kitchen and small business incubator on Congress Street, Union Kitchen is activating the Lot at Third and L Streets, NE regularly this summer as an outdoor neighborhood watering hole and live music venue. Petticoat Tearoom will be performing original folk songs starting at 7 p.m. From 6-8 p.m., a variety of local pop-up food vendors will be on site, and Union Kitchen will be selling wine and beer. Bring a friend, neighbor and your family, and swing over for this free concert! Listen to Petticoat Tearoom’s music here. Stay tuned for more concerts in the future @UnionKitchenDC.
NPR Community Event: Documentary on History of Black Press
Enjoy a screening of The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords this Friday, July 19 at the NPR headquarters located at 1111 North Capitol Street, NE. This documentary explores the history and influence of the black press in the United States; from the evolution of the Freedom’s Journal in 1827 to the recent decline in African-American-owned newspapers and everything in between. NPR Host and Special Correspondent Michele Norris will moderate a panel discussion following the screening. This movie showing is part of the larger March on Washington Film Festival, which is a free film festival in DC throughout July.
 
General admission tickets are limited, so please click here to reserve your free tickets. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 6 p.m.
Toy Story 3 at Family Film Night
The third season of Family Film Night at Sursum Corda continues with a free outdoor screening of Toy Story 3 on Tuesday, July 23. Families, children, and neighbors gather at the plaza at First and L Streets, NW for free food, games, and kid-friendly movies. A special THANK YOU to sponsor Harris Teeter, who supports this event by providing all the food. The fun starts at 7 p.m. and the movies start at sunset. Held on four Tuesdays throughout the summer, the movies shown at Family Film Night also fit the ‘Outlaw Heroes’ theme of the larger NoMa Summer Screen season.
