New Farmer's Market on Sundays
Visit the new farmers market at Union Market each Sunday through October 27, 10 AM to 2 PM. The market operates outside Union Market on Neal Place and features 11 farmers and producers, all highlighting the flavors of the Chesapeake Watershed. The market is organized by Edens, the owner and developer of Union Market, and FRESHFARM Markets, a nonprofit that operates 10 producer-only markets in the D.C. region. To lower economic barriers to fresh local foods, FRESHFARM Markets is offering Match Dollars to shoppers using their SNAP (Food Stamps/EBT), WIC, and SFMNP checks: for $15 spent using these nutritional benefits, FRESHFARM will give the shopper an additional $15 FREE Market Dollars to spend at market.

Products at the Market include: Apples, lettuce, peaches, plums, asian pears, sweet corn, tomatoes, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, summer squash, sweet peppers, hot peppers, zucchini, fingerling potatoes, basil, watermelon, cantaloupe, eggplant, eggs, honey, pickles, sauerkraut, relish, pastries, cookies, baklava, preserves, local herb and fruit flavored sodas, vegan soups and salads, flowers, hand-made soaps, hand lotions. Click here for a full lineup of vendors. For more information about Union Market, please visit www.unionmarketdc.com. Follow the market on Twitter: @FRESHFARMUnMkt.
NoMa Beer Fest Draws Massive Crowds
The inaugural NoMa Beer Fest attracted more than 5,000 people on Saturday for local beer, great food and fun local music. The August day was cooler-than-normal, with blue skies and a great breeze. Children chalked a beautiful mural, while patrons danced to tunes by Mission South, Johnny Artis and DJ Grey Goon. The NoMa BID was surprised by the high turnout and made a mid-day beer run to purchase more kegs from DC Brau, and called in reinforcement kegs from The Brewer’s Art and Chocolate City Brewing Co. We will be better prepared to serve DC’s loyal local-beer fans with great food, brews and fun at NoMa Beer Fest next year!

We’d like to thank our sponsors: without the support of Harris Teeter, Union Kitchen, First + M, 77H Apartments, Trilogy NoMa, this event would not have been possible. Thanks to The JBG Companies for providing the site. Special thanks to the hard-working and creative brewers who make such awesome beer: DC Brau, Chocolate City Brewing Company, District Chophouse, Capital City Brewing Company, Three Stars Brewing Co., The Brewer’s Art and Right Proper Brewery (opening soon in Shaw), and our fantastic food vendors:
