NoMa BID Reports Back from Parks Alliance Conference
NoMa BID's Planning Manager, Galin Brooks, joined parks professionals from across the country last week at Parks Alliance, a conference to learn about innovative practices in parks and open space planning. This two-day conference took place in one of the most park poor cities in our country, LA. There, attendees were shown examples of a micro-park initiative called the 50 Parks Initiative. The department of recreation and parks has begun to build what they hope to be over 50 small parks in park starved neighborhoods throughout the country. Best practices in operations and maintenance, financing and sustainability were also shared and tour participants lent their own experiences in cities throughout the country to the conversation.
New Farmer's Market on Sundays
Visit the new farmers market at Union Market each Sunday through October 27, 10 AM to 2 PM. The market is organized by Edens, the owner and developer of Union Market, and FRESHFARM Markets, a nonprofit that operates 10 producer-only markets in the D.C. region. To lower economic barriers to fresh local foods, FRESHFARM Markets is offering Match Dollars to shoppers using their SNAP (Food Stamps/EBT), WIC, and SFMNP checks: for $15 spent using these nutritional benefits, FRESHFARM will give the shopper an additional $15 FREE Market Dollars to spend at market.
