Underpass Design Competition Semi-Finalists Selected
The NoMa Parks Foundation has selected 49 semi-finalists to continue on to the next phase of the NoMa Underpass Design Competition. The competition’s prestigious jury is comprised of Elizabeth Broun, the Director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum; architect and columnist Roger Lewis; local artist Robin Rose; George Hemphill, local art curator/gallery owner and founding member of the District of Columbia Arts Center; and Charles “Sandy” Wilkes, Chair of the NoMa Parks Foundation, which is the sponsor of the competition.

The underpass competition seeks artists to install interactive installations in four underpasses at L, M, and K Streets, NE, and Florida Avenue, NE. The competition has generated overwhelming interest and excitement since its announcement in April. During the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) phase, the Foundation received 248 submissions from 14 countries, including a strong number of local entries. After a rigorous review, 49 semi-finalists now have four weeks to prepare their responses. Click here to view the full list of selected semi-finalists.
NoMa Summer Screen: Up
NoMa Summer Screen continues today, June 18, with Up! Grab your friends, family, and a blanket and enjoy this free film under the stars at the Loree Grand Field (250 K Street, NE). Music, giveaways, food trucks, picnicking, and fun for all ages start at 7 PM. The film will start at sunset. Up will be screened with subtitles. Coolers, children, and friendly (leashed) dogs are welcome. Due to the heat, bring extra water and hats.

Playable Art DC, a play and place-making initiative of the DC Office of Planning (OP), will bring an artistic play structure to NoMa through an international design competition in several years! Representatives from Playable Art DC will be at NoMa Summer Screen tonight to gather input from the community on what elements to incorporate into the play structure. Come at 7 PM before the movie and take our short survey to let your voice be heard.

Before the movie, check out Yappy Hour at TD Burger, located at 250 K Street, NE, around the corner from NoMa Summer Screen. There will be half-price bottles of wine, select beers, rail cocktails for $3.50, and select burgers for only $5. Pamper your dogs with free treats and other giveaways from Metro Mutts. Enjoy these specials from 5-8 PM.

Popped! Republic, Takorean, DC Slices, BBQ Bus, and Dangerously Delicious Pies will be vending on site starting at 7 PM. Come early for the chance to win tickets to see Route 29 Revue at the Merriweather Post Pavilion!

Do More 24: Give Back to Your Community
Be one of the thousands of people who will give back to their community tomorrow, June 19 as part of the Do More 24 Day of Giving. Powered by United Way of the National Capital Area, this 24-hour online fundraiser will raise much-needed funding for local nonprofit organizations throughout the Washington, D.C. region. Last year, 11,000 Do More 24 donors contributed more than $1.3 million to participating nonprofits.

Although there are a number of nonprofits to give to, we'd like to highlight a couple of our partners:

Open Arms Housing strives to provide permanent homes with a welcoming and supportive environment to women who are homeless with a wide range of mental health issues. Currently, their building is home to 16 formerly homeless women.

The Washington Project for the Arts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists at all stages of their careers. WPA serves over 12,000 artists and art-lovers each year, and has helped curate NoMa's own Lobby Project.
