NoMa Summer Screen: Midnight in Paris
NoMa Summer Screen continues today, June 11, with Midnight in Paris!  Grab your friends, family and a blanket, and enjoy this free film under the stars. Music, giveaways, food trucks, picnicking, and fun for all ages start at 7 PM, film starts at sunset. This movie series is located at the Loree Grand Field (Second & L Streets, NE). Midnight in Paris will be screened with subtitles. Coolers and friendly (leashed) dogs are welcome.
 
Before the movie begins, partake in a Yappy Hour from 5-8 PM at TD Burger, located at 250 K Street, NE. There will be half price bottles of wine, select beers, and $3.50 rail cocktails. Select burgers are only $5. Pamper your dogs with free treats and other giveaways from Metro Mutts.
 
Popped! Republic, Red Hook Lobster, Kafa Mania, Borinquen Lunch Box, and Captain Cookie DC will be serving delicious bites from their food trucks starting at 7 PM on the field.

Developed by First Potomac Realty Trust and Perseus Realty. The property is owned by Toll Brothers Apartment Living®, who are hosting the film series again this year.
Lobby Project Art Opening Thursday
Join us Thursday, June 12 from 6-8 PM for Joseph Corcoran and Katherine Mann's Lobby Project art opening. Their collaborative piece, The Uncommon Intersection, is a body of work created with blown glass and acrylic painting. Enjoy art, drinks, and support local artists! Admission is free and open to the public. This art reception is organized by the NoMa BID and the Washington Project for the Arts, and will be held at 1200 First Street, NE from 6-8 PM.

The Lobby Project, which launched in November, transformed a traditional office lobby into a vibrant hub of activity. Free WiFi, art, games, and evening programming enliven the space. Learn more about the Lobby Project here
Coming Soon: Playable Art in NoMa
 

Playable Art DC, a play and place making initiative of the DC Office of Planning (OP) is looking to bring an innovative art-based play structure to NoMa! After a competitive application process, NoMa was one of three areas selected to host a play installation.The intended site is the pocket of grass to the east of the Metropolitan Branch Trail between L and M Streets, NE.  Kennedy Street and the Mount Vernon Triangle were the other selected locations.

Representatives from Playable Art DC will be at NoMa Summer Screen on Wednesday, June 18 to present on this initiative and gather input from the community on what elements to incorporate in the play structure. Come at 7 PM before the movie starts to take a survey and let your voice be heard!

About Playable Art DC: Playable Art DC promotes the use of art as a means of creating new types of play spaces in areas that are constrained by space, topography, or busy streets. Playable Art DC seeks to engage the whole community in play, promote fitness and exercise, and create community landmarks and neighborhood gathering spots. It is made possible by a grant from ArtPlace America.

Angelika Pop-Up Grand Opening
The Angelika Film Center, one of the biggest arthouses in the US, is bringing an exclusive microcinema experience to NoMa! The Angelika Pop-Up’s grand opening is Friday, June 13. On their opening weekend, the Angelika Pop-Up will be screening Queen Margot: 20th Anniversary Director’s Cut and Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon. Purchase tickets in advance, and head out to 550 Penn Street, NE for a curated film and food experience at Union Market.
 
The Angelika Pop-Up is a temporary theater that will operate during the development of a new full-scale Angelika Film Center, expected to open in late 2015 at Union Market.
Rhythm in NoMa Lunch Concert

 

Rhythm in NoMa, a free live concert series, continues Thursday, June 12! Stop by Union Center Plaza (810-840 First Street, NE) to enjoy the funk music of Levi Stephens. Jazz up your lunch break with live music from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM and free outdoor WiFi.

Family Film Night at Sursum Corda
 The fourth annual Family Film Night returns on Tuesday, June 24! Families and children are invited to gather for kid-centric films fitting the theme ‘Unlikely Friendships.’ This event will take place on the following four Tuesdays this summer:

  • July 8: Frozen (2013, PG)
  • July 22: The Lego Movie (2014, PG)
  • August 5: Despicable Me 2 (2013, PG)
 
Family Film Night at Sursum Corda will take place in the plaza at L and First Streets, NW. The event starts at 7 PM with activities and free food. Films start at sunset.
Sunday Farmer's Market at Union Market
Spring has sprung at the FRESHFARM market at Union Market! Head over every summer Sunday from 11 AM - 3 PM. The market operates right outside of Union Market and features farmers and producers from the Chesapeake Watershed. This week, beets, spinach, radishes, greenhouse tomatoes, apples, asparagus, and more are in season.
 
FRESHFARM Markets also offers a unique matching dollars program for customers who use SNAP (Food Stamps/EBT), WIC and SFMNP checks.
Free Fitness and Yoga Classes
Grab a friend and get active this summer at free yoga and fitness classes on the Metropolitan Branch Trail!  Brought to you by the MBT 5k, classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July at 6:30 PM, weather permitting.

RAMMY Ticket Special
The 2014 RAMMY Awards Gala on Sunday, June 22 honors the great accomplishments of the DC region’s vibrant restaurant community, including the five chefs that were featured at NoMa BID's 2014 Annual Meeting. The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington has extended their member ticket price to this one-of-a-kind celebration to the NoMa neighborhood.

VinoFest Wine and Music Festival
Come out and celebrate wine, music, and local DC culture at the first annual VinoFest Wine and Music Festival on Saturday, June 28! VinoFestDC is curated to bring together boutique Virginia and imported wines, local food vendors, and musical performances from emerging and established artist for a one-day festival experience. Attendees will be treated to four wine tastings.
 
The event will begin at 2 PM at Union Market, 1309 Fifth Street, NE. Purchase your tickets here. A portion of the proceeds will go to two local DC charities: Bike2TheBeach and Dream for Kids D.C.

Do More 24: Give Back to Your Community
On June 19, Open Arms Housing, Inc. will be participating in Do More 24. Powered by United Way of the National Capital Area, this 24-hour online fundraiser will raise much-needed funding for Open Arms Housing and other local nonprofit organizations working throughout the Washington, DC region. Open Arms Housing, Inc.'s mission is to provide permanent homes with a welcoming and supportive environment to women who are homeless with a wide range of mental health issues. Currently, their building is home to 16 formerly homeless women. 

Get involved: open Arms Housing needs volunteers to assist with their fundraising efforts and event coordination for Do More 24.  Email info@openarmshousing.org to join the OAH Street Team.
