The NoMa Business Improvement District, with assistance from design firm AECOM, is hosting a community meeting to present initial ideas and take questions and suggestions on the NoMa parks plan. The event takes place TONIGHT, Wednesday, September 12th from 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at 1100 First St, NE.

The purpose of this meeting is to continue the parks and open space dialogue with the community now that potential sites have been identified and an open space system framework developed.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information and details on the Public Realm Design Plan, please view Design Plan Part One and Design Plan Part Two.

Farmers Market is Cancelled Today!

The NoMa Farmers Market is cancelled today. We are working hard to recruit new vendors for the market, so stay tuned for more information next week.
Union Market Re-Opens
The highly anticipated Union Market held its Grand Opening this past weekend, featuring food and ice cream from some of the best vendors in DC!  The market, located across from Gallaudet University on Fifth Street, was closed in the 1980s due to declining foot traffic and the District government's  ban on outdoor sales.

The market features 14 artisanal food vendors. Once the market reaches full capacity, more than 40 vendors will be featured.

You haven’t had a chance to check out the market yet? Well, you have plenty of time! The market is open on Fridays from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Join us on Thursday, September 20th for this season's last concert on the rooftop patio of Todd Gray’s Watershed in the Hilton Garden Inn (1225 First Street, NE). Enjoy Happy Hour drink and appetizer specials from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.!

This concert will feature the smooth sounds of Levi Stephens. Bring the office, friends, and family for a relaxing evening of music and food. Don’t forget to sign up for our raffle to win one of three gift certificates to the Watershed, or a free night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn.

This event is a part of the Art4All DC concert series, sponsored by Cultural Tourism DC. Art4All DC is a month-long arts awareness event that features performances in all quadrants of the city.
NoMa Good Neighbors
What do construction workers, a Rolex, and catch basins have in common? A lot! Two supervisors from Clark Construction retrieved a $15,000 watch from a sewage catch basin near the Flats 140 project site on M Street on August 21. Because they went above and beyond to assist a complete stranger, Mike Goodman and John “J.P.” Quinn received the first NoMa Good Neighbor Award.

A husband who could not afford an engagement ring for his wife when they were first married, purchased a Rolex for their 25th wedding anniversary. On her way to Harris Teeter on August 21, the wife's watch dropped into a sewer grate. NoMa BID Director of Operations Thomas Taylor happened to be nearby, saw the wife upset, and offered his assistance.

Two employees from the nearby Clark construction site, Mike and J.P., offered to help. They used a rake and then a sump pump to remove all of the gunk in the bottom of the catch basin. Then J.P. did the unimaginable: he jumped into the catch basin to find the watch. Without any special protection. J.P. started scooping up the gunk, placing it in a bucket and sending it up to be checked to see if the watch was there. With the assistance of Clean Team Supervisor Cory Luster, the group emptied the entire basin of sewage!

As the team was getting ready to give up hope, Cory saw the watch in a pile of gunk …and surprisingly, the watch was still working!

We would like to thank these two courageous men for what they did! If you know of someone who deserves a NoMa Good Neighbor Award, please feel free to contact Thomas Taylor.
