First Street Construction: End in Sight

The construction on First Street, NE is in its final stages. Over the past few weeks, the contractor has installed new wheelchair ramps, water mains, and restored utility trenches at First and K Streets, NE. The prolonged, abnormally cold weather has delayed the end of this project to May 2014. When reconstruction ends, First Street, NE will feature rebuilt sidewalks from G Street to New York Avenue, upgraded underground infrastructure, stormwater catch basins, enlarged tree boxes, new crosswalks and street lamps, and improved public spaces. This project was originally supposed to be 24 months until DDOT compressed the schedule. Construction began on May 28, 2013 so it will likely be a 12-month project at its completion. For more information about this project please contact NoMa BID Director of Operations, Thomas Taylor, at ttaylor@nomabid.org, or DDOT Project Manager Abdullahi Mohamed at abdullahi.mohamed@dc.gov.

Want Fresh Produce Delivered
to Your Block?
Love fresh produce, but don't have time to visit a local farmer's market? Perhaps you're interested in a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Through a CSA, a local farmer will bring a box of fresh produce to a designated drop-off spot each week (or biweekly, depending on your preferences). NoMa BID is gauging community interest, and would love to hear from you! Please message us on Facebook to let us know of your interest, and we'll be in touch soon with more info. Most CSA programs start in June.
