Five New Murals Brighten Up NoMa
Five new murals are adding pops of color in NoMa! Three of the murals are currently being painted on buildings at the corner of N and First Streets, NE, and will cover entire the entire facades of the two buildings. This street art was commissioned by Art Whino and JBG Companies, who chose three separate artists to paint geometric murals to enliven the block. The murals will be completed by November 6.

A few blocks up North Capitol Street, there are two more new murals. The first is on North Capitol and Bates Street, NW, on the side of Fresh Cut Barber Shop. The second is on the corner of Florida Avenue and Q Street, NW on the side of Fiddlehead's Salon. To view all the new street art, take a tour around the neighborhood or click here.
FotoWeekDC Kicks Off Tomorrow!
The 7th annual FotoWeekDC will take place November 8 -15, and will kick off with an opening party this Friday, November 7. The Opening Party, sponsored by Brightest Young Things, will be held at the Former Spanish Ambassador's Residence (2801 16th Street, NW) from 7:30-11 PM on Friday, and will feature photography exhibits, an open bar, music, photo booths, and food. Tickets cost $55 in advance, and $65 same day.

Stop by NoMa on Friday, November 14 for the  FotoBazaar Opening Party from 6:30-10 PM. FotoBazaar is the city's premier, massive, open-to-all, un-juried, for-sale gallery. The 25,000 SF space located at 51 N Street, NE was generously donated by JBG Companies, and will feature 250 exhibitors. The party will feature an open bar, photo booths, and music from DJ Sean Peoples and DJ Smudge. Tickets cost $15 in advance, and $25 same-day. Both parties are 21+.
 
Emporiyum at Union Market Nov. 15-16
Emporiyum is an artisanal food market "pop up" featuring Bryan Voltaggio of Top Chef, Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground, and 50+ other specialty food vendors from all over the country. Everything from frozen Momofuku crack pie to Luke’s Lobster will be at Union Market for you to savor on November 15 and 16! 

Last year’s Emporiyum in Baltimore not only sold out, but accumulated a wait list of more than 1,000, so make sure to buy tickets early. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
WABA & REI Host Future Trails Party Nov. 15
Join the Washington Area Byciclist Association, REI and trail lovers from around D.C. on Saturday, November 15 for the Future Trails party right here in NoMa. The celebration of D.C.'s trails will be held near the Metropolitan Branch Trail, on the grassy lot at the corner of First and Pierce Streets, NE. 

From 11 AM to 2 PM, join other cycling and trails enthusiasts for free food, music, bike repairs, and tons of other fun activities. Enter a raffle to win the grand prize of a C&O Canal Overnight Cycling Tour with REI, valued at $350. For more information, RSVP to the Future Trails Facebook event. NoMa Underpass Competition Continues

The NoMa Underpass Competition aims to transform NoMa's four dark underpasses at Florida Avenue and M, L, and K Streets, NE into safe, inspiring spaces with light and art. To provide feedback on the submissions, click here to take the online survey.

The NoMa Parks Foundation received 248 submissions from 14 countries, and the jury will select the winners by year-end. Click here for the full list of prestigious finalists. Installation of the winning designs will begin in 2015. The NoMa Underpass Competition is a partnership between the NoMa Parks Foundation, the District of Columbia government, WMATA, and Amtrak.

Pathways to Housing "Home for the Holidays" Drive
Interested in hosting a holiday drive in your building or donating household items?Consider participating in Pathway to Housing's "Home for the Holidays" drive this fall! Pathways to Housing DC is a local nonprofit that provides individuals with access to housing, as well as psychiatric, medical and educational services. Suggested donation items include toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hardware, and laundry detergent. E-mail Ali Newman for more information

Kiss & Ride, Cell Phone Waiting Lots at Union Station
Union Station recently unveiled a Cell Phone Waiting Lot and Kiss & Ride available for all station visitors. The lot, located inside the parking garage off H Street, NE, includes 10 spaces and will double in size this winter once construction is complete.

Help Plant a New Garden on the MBT Nov. 8
Stop by the Metropolitan Branch Trail on the morning of November 8 to help plant the Paul Meijer Garden. Paul Meijer is a long-time DC resident and supporter of the MBT, and has advocated for a safe, well-connected trail for decades. The planting will take place Saturday, November 8 from 8 AM to noon near the pedestrian bridge at Rhode Island Avenue, NE. Know Your Fitness Free Workout in NoMa Nov. 8
On Saturday, November 8 at 10 AM, Know Your Fitness DC will host a free workout in NoMa. This Saturday's workout will take place in the M Street, NE underpass between First and Third Streets, NE. You can either register here or drop-in. Bring two friends or neighbors and you will be entered to win a $25 Starbucks gift card.

NPR Presents WATER at the Newseum Nov. 8
On November 8 at 8 PM, NPR will host a storytelling experience entitled WATER, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon. The show combines journalism, theater, poetry, and music, and explores how people around the world are living with too much or too little water. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. The Newseum is located at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

Bike and Roll Annual Bike Sale Nov. 9
Mark your calendars for Bike and Roll's annual DC fleet sale on  November 9 from 11AM to 3PM. The sale will be held on Bike and Roll's National Mall location in L'Enfant Plaza. All sales are final and cash only.

Eckington Beautification Day Nov. 15
Join the Eckington Civic Association on November 15 for the last 2014 Beautification Day from 10 AM to 12 PM. The event will start at the Harry Thomas Recreation Center (1743 Lincoln Road, NE), and will be followed by a community gathering at 12 PM.

National Guard Memorial Museum Gallery Opening Nov. 17
A new permanent exhibit is opening at the National Guard Memorial Museum on November 17, showcasing the National Guard's participation during the entirety of World War II, on both European and Pacific fronts. The exhibit will feature 600 square feet of interactive displays of artifacts and an interactive map. Citizen-Soldier in WWII opens on November 17.

So Others Might Eat's Trot For Hunger Returns This Thanksgiving
S.O.M.E. is hosting its 13th annual Trot for Hunger 5K on Thanksgiving Day at Freedom Plaza. Proceeds from the race will benefit S.O.M.E., an organization that provides food, clothing and healthcare to poor and homeless people in DC. Starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27) there will be a kids' One-Mile Fun Run, followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Register for the race here. Registration costs $30 for un-timed participants, and $35 for timed participants.
