2017 Victorian Community History Awards

Entries are now open!

The Victorian Community History Awards (VCHA) are held annually to recognise the contributions made by Victorians in the preservation of the state’s fascinating history, published during the previous year. Presented by Public Record Office Victoria in partnership with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, the awards celebrate the people involved in community history projects who are dedicated to telling local stories which help all Victorians to better understand their past. History can be interpreted and shared in a variety of ways.

We are now accepting entries for the 2017 Victorian Community History Awards. Download the entry form here.

Vic Roads photographic collection

New to the archives

Early 20th century photos of the construction of Victoria’s roads and bridges are now available as part of our collection.

The 1913-1936 Vic Roads series of images consists of negatives and digitised photos which capture the construction of roads and bridges, including engineering techniques and materials and machinery utilised to develop road networks.

Discover Bendigo and District Hotels

At the Bendigo Regional Archives Centre

Researchers often ask if they can find information about local Bendigo and district Hotels using records from the Bendigo Regional Archives Centre. Many Hotels are referred to in various types of correspondence sent to the Council, all housed within our collection under Sandhurst/Bendigo Inwards Correspondence.

In this blog post, Dr Michele Matthews takes us through the records.
