Request for feedback on new RDA

Retention and Disposal Authority for Records of the Higher and Further Education Functions

PROV invites stakeholders to review a new draft Retention and Disposal Authority for Records of the Higher and Further Education Functions. The aim of the RDA, once issued as a Standard, is to specify records required as State Archives and to provide for the lawful disposal of records not required permanently after specified periods.

Please provide any feedback to agency.queries@prov.vic.gov.au by COB Friday 22 July 2016.

Find out more information and review the draft RDA here.

Congratulations to all of the 2016 award winners

On the 24th of June, PROV and the Public Records Advisory Council (PRAC) presented the 2016 Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards in a special evening ceremony at Queens Hall, Parliament House. This prestigious event showcased projects completed by Victorian Government agencies that truly reflected innovation and dedication to best practice recordkeeping and the preservation of records of permanent value.

What to do with credit card data

PROV provides agencies with an actionable framework

Government organisations manage a range of payment applications for the general public. What’s the best way to manage the data created via these financial transactions?

A History of the Future: Imagining Melbourne

Spaceships on rooftops and a hand-shaped building are among the unrealised plans for Melbourne that feature in City Gallery's current temporary exhibition which closes on Friday 12 August 2016.

Featuring records from our ‘Landmark’ collection, A History of the Future: Imagining Melbourne includes building plans, underground roads and public art projects proposed by city planners, architects, artists and writers over the last 180 years that would have changed the face of the city and how we engage with it.

PROV is getting a new website

Launching in late 2016

Government Services is pleased to announce a major upgrade to its online presence as part of the transformation of the PROV website, to be launched later this year. The revised Government Recordkeeping section will provide an improved user experience through clearer navigation and information upon PROV standards and requirements, Retention and Disposal Authorities, resources and tools. Other key features include an A-Z of recordkeeping topics and step-by-step guidance for agencies on common procedures such as transferring hardcopy and digital records to PROV.

Further information about the Government Recordkeeping section highlighting new features and changes will be provided following launch of the new website. Stay Tuned!

Records and Archives Analyst, Andrew Harris shares…

“This is an example of a folder containing proposed and successful changes made to suburb names and boundaries. This item (folder) relates to suburbs in Banyule City Council, which went through boundary changes in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Some suburbs affected were Eltham North/St Helena; St Helena/Greensborough; and Macleod/Yallambie. Files contained in the folder include correspondence between Land Victoria and Banyule, and working documents, including this annotated map of the Council. Decisions were made, based in large part, on community consultation. The records provide a fascinating insight into the complex nature of locality name changing.”
